2020 Z4 M40i arrives tomorrow

Hi Everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster. As stated Carvana is set to deliver a 2020 M40i, white, cognac,9k mi. to my home tomorrow. I want to thank all of you because so many of my questions were answered by searching in this forum.
I've owned a 1987 Mr2, a 1991 Supra turbo, 1987 911 targa, 2001 S2000 [for 18 years] 2019 Mustang GT which I traded for this BMW. I'm hoping this car will bring as much joy as my S2000 did. I will post a review after I put some miles on the car.

I think you’ll find it to be a great replacement for the Mustang and as enjoyable if not more so than the S2000 because of the balance of comfort and performance. Most importantly, you don’t even have to wait out the break in period!

Congrats. I would have owned a S2k if I could have fit in it. The Honda did not like six footers. The BMW does though.

The Z4 might give you the best qualities of all the cars you've had. Congratulations! Post pics when it arrives.

I second the motion on the white/ cognac combination.

Thank you all for the kind replies. The car had substantial scraping under the front end and many more stone chips than my S2000 had after 18 years. The mustang I was going to trade in had more miles and not a single chip. I rejected the vehicle, so I'll still be shopping.

Rock chips are indeed a problem on this vehicle. I have probably two dozen at 31k miles.

I bought it with 6k miles and a half dozen chips already installed, so the clear bra/ceramic treatment ship had already sailed.

I would have done the same. Scraping under the front bumper means the previous owner wasn't careful enough in everyday driving and who else knows how they treated it. With a car like this it's unacceptable.

If you don't find what you're after, ordering a brand new one from BMW can be done at or under MSRP. There's a bit of a wait but you get exactly what you want.

I would be surprised to find a dealer selling it for under the MSRP and most are selling over it as they are taking advantage of the chip shortages. If you find a dealer selling at full MSRP don't expect to make a better deal unless you qualify for one of BMW's discounts.

And don't forget about the BMW CCA rebate. It is only $500, but every little bit helps.

Just ordered a Z4M40i in mid Dec. All but one dealer I sent my build code gave me a price under MSRP. Albeit, some only 1K, but 2 were at 3K under MSRP. One said, "I will beat your best deal by $500". No one was above MSRP.

OP here. That is great news about new orders. I contacted a local dealer but they didn't even reply. I will have to expand my search. It would be so much easier without a trade but the tax savings of the trade in cannot be ignored.

I received a higher price with Carmax which far outweighed the savings on the sales tax doing a trade in with my dealer.

FYI. My dealer just got in a new 2022 Z4 30i, misano blue/black last week that is available. Isn't listed on their site as yet. If you're interested, let me know and I can hook you up with the right person there. Nothing gained by me other than seeing a happy new Z4 owner!

Thanks Rotherd31 but only looking for an M40i. After searching for months I would estimate that there are about 3 30i's for every M40i.

On the flip side, my wife got too close to a curb with ours and put some scratches on the underside of the bumper......I didn't get too excited as you can't see it unless you are laying on your back under the car or it's on a lift.....I wouldn't say it's any sort of indication on how the car's been kept.

The rock chips on the other hand would be a big deal to me.....and avoidable; that's why my car has PPF.

2 cents,
Dave

Same here. Rock chips really rub me the wrong way. Same reason why i went with PPF. Next obstacle is the chips on the chrome grill. GRRR. That wasn't PPF'ed. Looks like I'll need to replace that before long.

I scraped up the underside of the 2020 I traded in - a LOT, not doing much of anything. It's pretty low it seems. Recently, I was strongly considering adding a front spoiler to the new 2022 I have in production (to make it even lower and attract more problems), but my wife helped me see the light (with the aid of a frying pan).

Did you see the light or was it stars?
