You get what you pay for... I wouldn't recommend a "cheap" insurance company. I've had State Farm for 13yrs, multiple cars as well as life insurance through them. Parents have had State Farm since the '60s and have many policies through them.

state farm is trying their best to leave FL, and legally, the only way they can do that is to raise rates. keep an eye out for that, and if you have a chance, a month or two before your renewal go shopping with another agent.

Me too.

I have heard horror stories about virtually all insurance companies though, to include GEICO. Some companies seem to be worse than others in that regard (Progressive), but I can say that I've had nothing but good experiences with GEICO, to include a totaled modded E36 M3 which they let me pull as many mods off as I could get to.

I had lots of military buddies with good experience with USAA too.

I actually had good experience with Progressive but I've only used them for motorcycles, not cars. I think, as with anything, it depends on who you get when making a claim.

We've had Traveler's for years. Handled our totaled Acura MDX very quickly with no expense to us and no rates raised. Well, it was the other drivers fault.

my family's had state farm for a while, rare to file a claim but it's usually been easy. nice that you can call your own agent instead of a call center. i've used mercury before, it was a bitch to sign up, and never filed a claim so wouldn't know how that goes.

i like aaa though. some guy totaled my car once, his insurance was aaa. they were fast, nice, and gave me a really good deal. i've heard that from others too: when shit happens, aaa gives you a good deal.

I know you don't want to hear this but you're going to have high rates anywhere. Most sites have a free online quote so I would go that route (it's much more accurate than asking us...). I know that GEICO looks at a trailing 5 year driving history where most other providers only go back 3 years so keep that in mind. I was with GEICO for several years after my Lotus accident claim ($27k) but had to drop them after the 3yr anniversary because I was going to be paying an elevated rate for an extra 2yrs which made no sense.

If you can avail the services of USAA then you're good. I've heard so much good stories about them. If you're looking for a cheaper one, try Allstate but I know rates differ so it still depends.

USAA is well known for being a very well run company, i've had good experiences with Statefarm as well, they made it as painless as is possible after I got in a minor accident a few months back that required a new front bumper and headlights.

Add me to the Love Geico list! I've had Geico for more years than I can remember and though I hear alot of talk against Geico, I have never had a problem with their service and the rates have consistently gone down every renewal till now I get rates that no other insurance company can match. The only thing that sucks is that in California, Geico could not give us home insurance combined with our car insurance to give us an even better discount, they had to be separate. This was 2 years ago, I wonder if they still have this same limitation.

My wife used to have statefarm (came with it pre-marriage) and I went to the agent's office once with her and he was seriously trash talking Geico giving me numerous reasons why I should switch, nearly did too, but in the end statefarm just couldn't match or give us a good deal. Wife joined me on Geico

In all these years I have had to deal with Geico twice and both the times they have gone out of their way to take care of me and in one case that stretched out longer than we had anticipated, they kept on it and gave me regular updates until it was resolved. Very impressed.

I love my USAA insurance and banking.

I've heard mostly horror stories for Geico until this thread. Not only for the Geico customer, but for anyone involved in an accident with a Geico customer. I've heard issues that a Geico customer was at fault for the accident, but Geico was consistently poor with getting things processed.
