The August 2002 edition of Automobile magazine featured a cover article on the concept version of the E85 Z4. Other than a few detail changes like the roll bars and roundels on the fenders, it seems to me that the concept and production cars looked almost identical, on the exterior anyway. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the same holds true for the G29. I can't imagine that BMW is not in this game to win.

The AirBreather in the front quarter panel is on the Concept 8 Series and will be included in future styling of BMW's. It's part of the new form design language from BMW.
That's what BMW told us at Lake Como in May at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. The vent is executed well and looks very nice in the metal. |

It's a concept car so there is hope BMW will come to its senses and not release this abomination. The "bullet tip" grille (a la 1960's Cadillacs and current Mercedes) is horrendous. The shape of the kidneys is even worse.

It's hard to tell...but it looks different. Different is good IMO - we have had a lot of the same sort of designs across the respective ranges lately.
With that being said, hasn't this car been testing for a while? Why are we seeing it in concept form?

That leaves the angel eyes .. and even if they end up looking amazing, just the simple fact that aren?t BMW-eyes this car has, is a massive turn off :

Looks like a different view of the concept vehicle that's been on the BMW USA site for a while.

These two lines help air flow along the body of the car at speed for an elegantly aggressive function to aerodynamics. The new BMW design language is featured prominently on the Concept 8 Series. Expect these features to be widely copied by other manufacturers because it makes the car look even more "athletic" in appearance, in base form and stunning in M Sport and real M GmbH form respectively. So I see the Concept Z4 will offer a new interpretation of the AirBreather that started with the Concept 8 Series. |
