Sell now for LCI?

Caravana would apparently give me about $60k for my 2020 Z4 M40i, pretty much fully loaded. A new fully loaded Z4 M40i is a bit over $70k. My car is about 2.5 years old at this point.

Wondering if anyone is considering selling their Z4 now since the used car prices are so high, and then order a LCI which are going to introduced in about 1 year and available in Spring 2023 apparently?

It’s going to be one of the last cars of its kind (convertible roadster with combustion engine), so really itching to get the latest and greatest one and keeping it for a while.

Only thing stopping me from trading now is preferring build I have over build I'd probably end up with. LCI is definitely a possible replacement. Too soon to say.

EOP is 2025, I'm thinking there would be a special, limited one maybe a Z4M

Even if you get a good price for yours, it's not so much as what you didn't lose on the car as what you'll have to spend; probably $10-12K to upgrade to a new model (fully optioned), not to mention all the time you'll be without a Z4.
I might add you still have half your car's warranty left.

Current trade values seem sufficiently inflated to justify even MSRP to swap. Some of that spread should be offset by increased future residual value. Balance allocated to cost of past use. Replacement allocation and equipment issues present the real obstacles in my mind.

I think it’s a valid option. I just traded my z4 M40i yesterday which I’ve had for almost 2 years yesterday for 55k. It was a bummer but even after having a significant accident and being way over mileage on my lease based on months used and having tires that needed changing I think it was my best get out of jail free card. Unfortunately, I couldn’t sell it on the open market due to it being a lease but if your car hasn’t been in a wreck I think it’s the perfect time to get out. I’m sure by the time lci or the potential s58 z4 is out there shouldn’t be a chip shortage but the longer you wait holding on to the car it may no longer net you anything positive.

If you are determined to make the move now you will be paid more if you try to sell it privately than what Carvana will give to you.

By the way, how many miles do you have on it and what is the color combination?

If you went with a LCI would you still stay with a black combination?

I tend to agree. Seeing as the 2021's are the last to have all equipment and unimpacted by the chip shortage, their value would be higher than the 2022 or 2023's. Make no mistake, when the chip shortage is abated, the used market will subside; that is unless inflation continues into the double digits like the late 1970's under Carter.

Preference is non-metallic white with grey interior. Black on black probably my future. Definitely if it's another Z4 and I'd add adaptive headlights. Audio confused. Would prefer more wattage but not sure I'd want the HK.

Well, the upgraded HK 408W system is a blast and well worth the executive package or option. not wanting for more volume.

IF EOP is 2025, I'm not sure how much of an LCI there will be.....even if there is one. Unless I've missed something, nobody knows....the only spy pics that show an alleged LCI had no descernible styling changes. I could actually sell my very low mileage, mint, M40i for as much as I paid for it but I have no faith that there will be changes I like or want.....or even if it will happen. Also notice the current option roll back due to Covid....which makes me question what will be available in the near future. If they do produce a Z4M, it will likely be very limited production and cost 50% more - if so, I wouldn't be interested anyhow. I think I'll stick with my car; I'm pretty happy with it.

One other thought; based on the 4 series, etc. I'm not sure I'd WANT an LCI.....

That's what happened to me with my F type, the "update" in 2021 killed the looks IMO.....when I bought my Range Rover, I drove up in the Z4 and the dealer asked what it would take to get me back in an F type and I said, "there's nothing you can do or say to make me want one now".

Fair points. I would wait and see. I know I would not need anymore additional horsepower and enjoying mine just fine as well.

A loss of 12k is less than what I would have spent on a lease in the same time frame. Not at all worried about that.

But yes, would miss it dearly over spring/summer/fall.

The HK system gets a bad reputation, perhaps it is because people are playing music from FM radio stations. I rarely play music from FM radio and have been ripping my CD's to my computer then transfer them to my iPhone using ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) aka hi-res audio which while slightly compressed does not affect the quality of the sound from compression and sounds like the original source. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is similar to ALAC and many use it to store music on Android devices.

Apple Music is currently in the process of moving their entire music catalogue over to both CD quality (requires more storage space on a hard drive) and ALAC so in the future I won't have to rip my CD's.

It makes a difference and the HK system has a great sound.

Was just trying to get an idea what I could sell it for 'sure'. Kinda like the no hassle transaction.

Anyway, about 12000 miles, red exterior and white interior.

It is a beautiful color combination combined with low mileage = higher price!

Because the spy pics indicate there will be few changes, I figure the chances I won't like the LCI car are slim. But yes, always possible and I would hate to get rid of mine and be without one or having to re-buy a used one I like.

If the spy pics are real, it's definitely more than just color combo changes - or why the camouflage. Not like one can't tell it's a Z4.

Well mine will be a unicorn then as it has every option and nothing has been deleted from my 2022. Hope to be picking it up Monday or Tuesday next week. If I have a bit of luck.

I agree that there will probably be some new colors and in addition new wheel options offered. The headlights and taillights and front grill might get a slight update as well as the interior trim.

The question is with all of the chip shortages will they be adding iDrive 8?
