Digital Key versus new Phone

Getting a new phone today. Do I need to impair the digital key first?

Most of the issues with digital key have to do with the carrier. I can speak for Verizon and they want nothing to do with this. Legal issue of using phone to open and start a car. Just carry the card in your wallet as backup. Opening the door with card sometimes takes a few swipes let alone the phone. Not worth it. Meant as a backup. I rooted my verizon phone just to get this to work. Not worth it. Take your phone out of your pocket and swipe it near door handle. Not always on first try. Waste of time compared to just having fob in your pocket!!

rooted is the android term.
Jailbreak is the iphone term for hacking your phone. Which itself is not worth it.

I use my Apple Watch to unlock my car all the time (same technology as using the iphone), typically when I’m in the garage after driving my wife’s car, or I just need to get something out of the car as I’m passing through. I’ve never had any issues. Like most things with an iphone, it just works.

FYI ... my 2020 Z4 is not Digital Key capable, but my 2021 X5 45e is. Got a new iPhone 13 Pro Max. Deleted the old iPhone 12 Pro Max pairing under doors/lock option in the car, then used the My BMW App on the new iphone to initiate the Digital Key pairing, placed phone in charging tray and new phone was digital key ready in 15 seconds

Alright, that's really what I was trying to get. So you unpaired. Wasn't an issue repairing then. Ok. outstanding. That helps!
