Looks like in the UK it’s part of the Comfort Package? I think in the US the wind deflector comes with the car as standard.

Yeah I was hoping it would be possible to buy it via the accessories catalogue, so I didn't order it with my car

From past experience it is much cheaper to order the wind deflector as an optional extra on a new BMW car. £170 for the G29 Z4 at present in the UK.

When I purchased the wind deflector kit as an afterfit for my pre-registered E89 in 2016 the part cost me £295 to order from a supplier in Germany. My local dealer wanted £375 to supply the kit and £440 plus VAT to supply and fit it. If ordered as an optional extra on a new car it was £200 at that time.

Best approach your dealer to see if he can do something for you before you take delivery of your car. Otherwise you are likely to have to pay through the nose for it.

Any luck with the wind deflector? The parts catalogue says retrofit needs 4 parts. The center deflector, the two side pieces that fit inside in the roll hoops as well as the front roll hoop trim covers left and right. Sounds particularly expensive!!

Yeah I've been looking into it today actually...

Requires the following parts:
  • [1] Wind Deflector (54 34 9 481 141)
  • [2] Windschott (54 34 7 457 891) x2
  • [3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 683)
  • [3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 684)

In the UK the factory option was £170 whereas the retrofit parts are over £400 plus fitting, so it's a massive difference. I would therefore strongly recommend anyone thinking about ordering a Z4 gets this from the factory!

I mistakenly assumed it would be the same price to order as an accessory later on but sadly not. The main issue seems to be the roll hoops are different on cars with the wind deflector from the factory.

Retrofitting anything on a car is almost always a pain in the ass and costs multiples of what it would cost if ordered with the car, so no surprises there. The surprise was the trim covers are actually different and that the M40i (from your signature) doesn't come with one, given that it comes standard as part on the M-Sport package.

I think it’s possibly a UK thing, as I can see on the German configurator it’s standard fit on the car in Germany.

It’s not the end of the world as I love the car and took a gamble ordering it well before it went on sale, but a slight annoyance anyway!

Yes, correct, it’s different - depending on market. In the US, wind deflector is standard. Yet can’t order black grills and mirrors on M40i.

Important when anyone looks at an ordering guide - make sure it’s actually for your market.
