First frost of the year - window issue
I awoke to bright sunshine and a sharp frost. The first hard frost since I bought my G29 so the first chance to see how it copes with icy roads.
Well that was the plan. The drivers door opened but unfortunately would not close as the frost had prevented the window from dropping the required inch to fit below the roof. Great! After 15-20 minutes of internal defrosting, ice removal and de-icer on the door the window still wouldn't budge so it was time to try the good old warm water trick. After pouring the warm water over the window and down into the door\window area the window was finally defrosted enough to allow the door to fully close. The temp was around -1c so nowhere near as cold as it could get at this time of the year. I'm not sure how easy this will be to live with if we get a prolonged cold snap. The good news is that on finally able to drive the car it behaved great on the icy roads. |

Haven't had much frost since I got the Z4 but what you describe is pretty normal for frameless windows. I've always got in the habit of taking a small bottle of hot water out in the morning, chucking it in the back of the car when used, and taking it back in when I get home.
Bit of a pain but no worse than having to remember the scarf, gloves, wooly hat, umbrella etc. |

I used to have this on my (insert name of BMW coupe). I put a little bit of Vaseline around the edge of the door seals. Didn't have stocking once in winter.

I also tried to lower the roof but was informed that it couldn't be done at this point in time. Why was this? - too cold and roof frozen shut? - door not shut? |

In the manual it says that the roof is disabled below a certain temperature. I thought it was 5 Celsius but on Saturday afternoon it was below that temp and I drove about in the pale winter sunshine before my feet got too cold. The Straight Pipes we're driving an M8 Cabriolet around at -5 C so it's not completely clear what the criteria are. |

Waterproof Outdoor Half Car Cover I have the full waterproof cover for my Z3. The Half cover is easy to fit but you should read the cautionary tales of paint damage on older cars before committing. |
