In my Z4 and X5 I use the perspective view on the nav screen, primarily because it gives you a bit larger view over the top down view when it is auto ranging. When flying, my preference is DTK up. As for your ride, there’s a reason the 172 is the most produced aircraft in history. It’s highly versatile and “good enough” at almost everything it needs to do. It’s the family wagon of general aviation.
Yaaay. Another pilot here... I didn't mean to offend lol. I know most people don't like north side up in their car so I'm basically the odd one out. As long as I know where north is it helps me navigate or know where I am even without GPS

Yea same with me dtk up. So what do you fly? How often?

Do you prefer cruising in the g29 somewhere or flying?

BTW I was flying from Long beach LGB to Ramona RNM. It's a real hassle to fly north of LGB since you have to follow special flight rules or fly a few preselected routes to get through the LAX Bravo

I haven’t been flying in quite a while. Lots of reasons why but at this point I don’t have a compelling reason get back in the cockpit. These days I’m content to drop the top on the Z4 and cruise the back roads of central Florida.

I did my training in a Beech Skipper, the VW bug often airplanes. Cheap, nimble, and fun, but horribly underpowered. Then a bunch of time in 172s and Grumman Tigers and Cheetahs. I’d say the C172, C182, and C206 are the X3, X5, and X7. The Grummans are the Z4. The Cheetah being the S30i and the Tiger the M40i. Cracking the canopy open on the Grummans is almost a convertible.

I can sympathize with you. I spent 11 years between LA and Vandenberg when I was in the USAF. SoCal is great for flying but the best way to navigate LA airspace is IFR.

I'm working on my instrument rating.

I agree on your comparisons of 172/182/206 🤣🤣.

Haha you were in Vandenberg 🤣🤣. When I cross countried from Camarillo to Santa Maria when I was a student, I would take a left downiwnd from Santa Maria from rwy 30. And had to fly right to avoid the approach corridor to rwy 30 in Santa Maria, and the corridor was like 4-5 miles wide, and to my right heading back to Camarillo was Vandenbergs restricted airspace. I was about at the right place in the corridor, but my instructor idk how he's an instructor, is so dumb he followed my flight path through adsbexhange.com using the DEFAULT Google maps style maps which has the wrong borders for the restricted airspace is. He thought I was like 1/4 mile from the restricted and even I was confused. Then I realized this "instructor" doesn't understand a Google maps style map is NOT. Sectional. According to the sectional my distanxe to the airspace was fine and the same as everyone else. Also. Holy eff Vandenberg is the best place to land in an emergency, runway is 15,000 feet long lol

Folks, I know that we have had many threads that have gone OT in the past but you are cruising at a much higher altitude.

I understand your enthusiasm about flying but please remember that this is the "Unicorn Sightings" thread and we have gone way off topic!

Just saw a white g29 as I was crossing a fairly busy dual carriage way in Kathu district, Phuket. Not sure if it was 30i or 40i, but it wasn’t a 2023 post uplift car.

Only the first one I have seen in Phuket and third one I am conscious of seeing in Thailand over the last 16 years. All have been white. The other two were in Krabi and Chonburi.

I happened to drive past the BMW dealer today and I noticed that they have a new G29 for sale in the main window, also white. Mine is hopefully in the back being prepped for me to collect it next week.

So likely there will be a couple more on the road soon. But the dealer did mention to me previously that mine is the first SSG that they have ordered or sold. So I guess SSG is an exclusive club….for now.

Ask your dealer to get you in touch with whoever buys the one in the window and start a local G29 club.

Thundernight Metalic Z4 M40i at Publix in Myrtle Beach. Love the strategic parking, only slot between curb and cart coral!

*Talked to the owner awhile, let him know of the cars and coffee each month, maybe see him attend one of them in the future. No surprise he is loving the car so far 1300 miles on it.

Drove with and up on the side of a frozen gray M40i on 281 going north today. Exchanged waves and smiles!

Parking next to the cart corral is way riskier than the average parking spot IMO.

Yes indeed very possible. In this instance this corral was on the far end away from the store, most people did not want to park that far away.

But yea there are people who launch a 3 point cart shot in into these corrals from long range lol

Saw a black M40i on US 301 southbound in Riverview this afternoon.

Top was up and I was in the X5 so I couldn't see the driver or interior.

Am a park & walk guy at the parking lots. I do try to find a tree to hide under in summer which sometimes results in a longer walk.

I avoid parking under trees in south Florida because of sap, bird droppings and in the case of palm trees there are totally dry fronds (large leaves on a palm) that can break off from the tree and they are heavy enough to cause damage to your car.

I saw a PB Z4 with top up headed north on Duncan Rd this morning. I was s/b in the Z4 top down. Only got a quick look due to limited sightline.

But that's two sightings in two days! Pretty rare as I typically only see about 2 per month.

Rare sighting yesterday of a SFR g29, pre face lift, parked in the super car parking at Central Festival shopping mall.

I wasn’t driving mine at the time because it was raining, otherwise there would have been two together.

First time I have seen a non white g29 in Thailand ( other than my own)

I would have done, but I was in a queue of cars slowly going round the car park looking for a space. Didn’t feel I could hold up the traffic while I fumbled my phone. Eventually parked 3 floors up, so didn’t walk past it later. 😬
