Know what you mean. I leased the predecessor and didn't get another one at lease end because the G29 was supposed to be released 'any day now'. That was one looong wait and I kicked myself for not getting another one when I had the chance.

Why not consider a pre-owned with warranty that has all of the packages you want if it has low mileage and you can find one available?

You can get lucky doing that. We went looking for used Zs in January when there were none locally to even test drive and no dealers had allocations. Found one 125 miles away with the right colors, more options than we would have ordered, 6 months and 4K miles old, drove it home that night, delighted with the price and the instant gratification.

These days used cars are more expensive than most brand new. Just went looking for a new car for my wife. Went with Subaru Crosstrek Sport. Put in an order for one Saturday for $30836 and many used ones were even $32000-35000!

Which color combination and model did you get?

S30. Alpine/Ivory. We would have ordered Alpine/Cognac, which was as close to the Alpine/Tan in the 1999 Z3 she'd driven for 22 years as we could get. The Z4 had the M Sport package, which we wouldn't have ordered but now realize is fun, and didn't have heated steering wheel, which we would have ordered but certainly wasn't a deal breaker.

Given the uncertainty then about when we would even have a chance to order one, and what the price would be when we did, buying this at the price we got was a no-brainer.

The Z3 went to our daughter-in-law, so now there are two happy women in the family.

The 8 series just got their official LCI announcement so I guess from this we can maybe guess what could happen to the Z4.

Bucket seat option? Probably not since those seem M specific.
More, or different colors? I could see this.
Bigger LCD? If it could fit the current dash?
Lighted grill? I hope not!

I would be impressed if BMW does anything to the G29. They did basically nothing for the E89 LCI.

I surmise the only thing they would do for the Z4 is a special variant for the last model year. This may be their last iteration of a roadster.

Unclear if new rule compliance is that simple.

From what I read, BMW deactivated it for the US markets and with the rule change; all that is needed is to turn it on.

I know the feature you're talking about and I don't know how it would work for our headlights, which are fixed and just have the cornering light to make them "adaptive".
My 2017 3-series had the true adaptive LEDs which turned with the steering wheel. I coded it for the euro highbeams which used the car's front camera to point the light beams around oncoming traffic. It could even keep just one headlight's high beam on at a time.

That's fair. I know my M235 had the headlights move with the steering and it was ok.

Here in Europe, its an option you can buy through the connected drive store, even if you didn't spec the car with them originally. So I think its probably the same for US cars, but currently without the option to turn it on through the connected drive store.

Interesting, I thought Jaguar did a great job with the 2021 F-type refresh. It certainly is very different than before but I think the whole design looks very cohesive.

How did you like switching from F-type to Z4 btw?
