Young driver caught going 308 km/h on QEW: OPP

308 KMH is 191 MPH, MB C63 AMG.

A 19-year-old motorist who was driving his dad’s Mercedes was allegedly caught speeding at around three times the posted limit on the QEW, according to the OPP.

An officer clocked the G2 driver’s car travelling at 308 km/h when he was pulled over Saturday on the QEW, near Burlington, at around 10 p.m., said OPP spokesman Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

The veteran officer said this is the fastest case of alleged speeding he has encountered while on the job.

“This is absolutely egregious,” Schmidt added.

“As the officer got the vehicle stopped, traffic that was going by was honking in delight that this driver was taken off the road,” Schmidt said.

The driver, who was with another 19-year-old male passenger, was hit with an automatic seven-day driver’s licence suspension. The vehicle was impounded.

He was charged with stunt driving and dangerous driving.

“It’s going to be a somber Mother’s Day, I would suspect,” Schmidt told CP24.

I guess, but had he not been going so fast it wouldn't be an issue either way.

Kudos to someone actually using a C63 appropriately for a change.

And officer, those cheers were not for you, they were for the the other guy. ///M Driver at heart.

Here in Ontario the good the honks were for the cop, everyone here thinks you shouldn't drive over the speed limit of 100KMH....hell driving under the speed limit in the left lane is a huge problem here.

If you drive like that, you don't do it around other people.

I had to re-calculate 308-km-per-hour-to-miles conversion twice. 191 miles per hour still showed up.

Was it C63 S which has a top speed of 180 miles hour? C63 has a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

Regardless of the actual speed recorded, had the unthinkable happened some family would lose a son, daughter, father ... the picture without accolades emerges pretty quickly.

The driver of the vehicle probably didn't check the tire pressure or brakes condition imagining himself as a commander of hovercraft CCGH Sijay and trying to make it in time for dinner in Montreal.

NOTE: CCGH Sijay is a Type 400 AP1-88 Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft based in Richmond, BC with a sister ship CCGH Sipu Muin based at Trois-Rivières, Quebec. More details at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCGH_Siyay

I suspect the top speed is limited by the ECU not the actual potential. I know there are threads on here that discuss removing the limited speed.

The use of the term stunt driving is so stupid it's beyond words.

The roads are open though and it is very tempting I have to say. But 300 clicks is a bit stupid to say the least.

It is an unnecessary addition to the HTA, the Speeding section and Careless Driving section's cover this behaviour adequately.

Yes, its called Felony Speeding, reckless endangerment, exhibition of speed, etc etc. Looks like the stunt was performed at night, and roads are generally clear during this Pandemic. Seems like the best scenario to go for a top speed shootout on a modified v8 sedan. If you wouldnt have done this at that age in that car, then I cant relate.

Nope, car impounded for 7 days, 30 day licence suspension on the spot and $10,000 fine.....which is equivalent to about $35 USD

There are a few other differences. Your licence testing in more comprehensive and your laws are much more strictly enforced, also car maintenance and repair is more heavily regulated and I suspect the Autobahn in the no limit zones is very well maintained.

Our speedliits are about 30-40kmh lower than they should be in many areas but that's another story.

Yes, many limits in Canada are fairly low, but I'd imagine it's like here in the US. Find places where the population is low or non-existent and stretches are visible with no traffic or cars on the side of the road and you can let it rip, no one will care or be endangered except yourself (if you are alone). If you do it in a twisty mountain pass area, you are ready to slow down if need be and not being stupid with your sight lines. If you do get stopped by a random unit going the other way, chances are they'll mark it down a bunch.

Do it on a crowded highway with other people, in a city, in a residential area, you're just being stupid and deserve to get caught. No sympathy. That's like taking a **** where you eat. I'm not talking about cruising 5mph or 10kph above the limit, but overt speeding well over 20 in excess of the limits, the higher it is over that figure, the more egregious the police are going to take it in a city/residential/populated area.

I got my driver's license in Michigan. Just over Ambasador Bridge from Canada. And there I had to worry and look out for Smokey while pulling 165mph runs outside the tracks.

Then I come here, and literally trade my license for a German one with no additional hasslle (and even before than for 6 months your US license is good) and woila! No more pesky speed limits! And guess what? It's FINE! No more crazy crashes here than anywhere else. The roads are nice, and people stay right except to pass. Otherwise you get a missile up your ass. Like it should be.

And if you do get caught, it's by a camera. 25 over is 30 Euro. No one will chase you down for doing 30 over.

That's why I call this country civilized. "Felony" and "Speeding" should not be used in a same sentence in any modern nation. And if they are, that nation (including US) is doing something majorly wrong. There is a better way. No one should go to jail because they drove. The end.
