How fast will the G29 Depreciate

I am just curious on thoughts here about the rate of depreciation you expect on the G29. The first 3 years will be the worst. I expect that at the end of these early 3 year leases the residual will be about 48% of list. What do you all think? Anyone know what they are using in the lease formula?

I don’t know, but it may be too early to tell. One dealer didn’t quote me a discount - he said if the car sits a couple weeks, the discounts will come quick and high. Other dealers quoted various discounts - I guess they are betting on the car not selling well. My assumption is that dealer can gauge that based on the interest they are receiving in a new car. They all seemed to have exactly one M40i on order (which they all were willing to modify to my config).

Just saw on FB that the first and only Z4 that BMW Atlantic City had was sold last night. Didn't last a week on the floor.

Telling you - it looks and drives really good. I was tempted. Until I learned that most local dealers already had one M40i on order (scheduled for prod in March), so I got an M40i instead. Dealer was still able to change config to what i wanted, went into production yesterday.

Wonder how much of the early sales are just early demand because of people like me who held out for the ‘new one’ for several years and are tired of waiting. Once those early adopters made their purchase, sales plummet.

I do hope it’s a sales success, would be sad if it was the last Z.

M40i Should show up at most dealerships end of April/beginning of May.

lease residual

36 months 10k 59% residual. Not bad, but this car will be a big flop. Its no Porsche. Still to heavy. Hate the ragtop. Front looks like a Lexus. Love the rear and interior. I might get one next year when there discounted. They wont budge on price, but at least there not asking over like the M5.

I completely agree. I think I will wait until they come off of lease and pic up an M40i for 28K with under 10K in miles.

It will depreciate fast most BMW's sadly do these days. The new Z4 is hardly a good looker there are far better options for this money. Sad as I loved my last Z4 but having seen it this new one is one big disappointment

What other options are there? Boxster starts at $10k more and that is the version is manual seats and other missing features that pushes the difference higher.

SLC is gone after next year

TT? Yeah sure...

C7 corvette is a good performance value but also quite a bit more expensive

A5, C, 4 are all convertibles with more space and could be good choices. I personally don't think any of these look that great as convertibles

I think that about covers it? It's a small segment so I'm curious what you think is a better option at this price point

Corvette would be the only one I would consider. Given current pricing / GM discount, it's actually a pretty good deal, even with a couple must have options. However, isn't it about to be replaced as well? And interior quality & tech is probably not quite up to par with new Z4.

The best residual on a M40i will be at $47,000 and you will probably find it hard to find one where they only drove it 10,000 miles. But go luck to you.

Exactly, the C8 should be coming soon as the C7 is getting old. You are absolutely correct!

The question remains to the people who are always saying there are better options, yet I have yet to hear from anyone saying what those are.

Porsche will always be the best driving car, but the boxster not only costs significantly more, but its tech is also outdated

I agree

I agree with last post. What options do we have. I might keep my Z when lease is up in 2 months. I hate owning cars. The Porsche sounds like a good option now since BMW's a rag-top now. The New Z isn't setting speed records so why not keep the hard top. And the front is Ugly. I can get over the top, but that front looks like a lexus with bmw grill. Test drove it today and liked it. Love the interior and the rear. Dealer is near highway and the car was outside. It was cold out and kept going back and forth between my car and the new one. Boy that rag top sure was loud inside. Almost no protection from noise. Hate to be the first, never a good value. Had to get the C7 first and i paid through the nose. Just glad i got out early and didnt take a big hit. C7's are worhless now (cant give them away). If looking for a C7 nows the time. The grand sports a real looker. But buying a used car is not for me. Again i might change my mind when M40 in frozen orange is available this summer.

I am sure there will be many with 10K or less that were garage queens driven 3000 miles a year. These are not daily driver cars.

Edit: the jury will be out on the residual until we see how sales go, how deep they discount (which may be coming as the overall car market slid the last two months). So, time will tell, but I know this, whatever the residual is in 3 years, the cost to buy a low mileage M40i will be SIGNIFICANTLY less in three years time than it is new and someone else will take the biggest hit on the depreciation!

I owned a 2014 A5 Cabriolet for 4 years. It was a great looking car. I got many compliments on this car from many strangers. It was also a comfortable car but with the rag top it was very loud on the highway with the top up. Forget talking on the phone via hands free. You could not be heard over the wind/road noise. It also had a too soft suspension and lots of body roll in the corners. And the forget about the MMI Infotainment System. I hated that. Probably the worst I have even had.

I have a BMW Z4 20i (G29), could anyone provide any indication as to how much this car would be worth in January 2022 for example. This will have around 10k miles on the clock at that point and was a little curious as to when will be the best time to sell this car. Purchased the vehicle for just under £30,000 with 760 miles on?

Any help will be much appreciated

Really depends on where you live and your concept of having a vert. I drive mine everyday.Usually with the top down. That is why I bought the car.

I decided I will drive mine a lot in the summer, but keep it out of the rain for now. And it will be garaged for winter.

I think depreciation is a rigged monetary value meant to keep owners upside down, always owing more than what the car is worth with standard lease and financing. Figure about 10%-15% depreciation every year for the first 4 years. Low mileage might get you a few extra buck in value, but it's not a huge factor I have found.

Car is selling well

Don't think a big discount is coming on this car anytime soon and this car is very far from a big flop. The G29 is selling well globally I was told by BMW corporate folks in Munich (better then forecast) and theres only limited capacity at Magna Styer in Austria to make them. The production capacity in Austria is split between the Z4 and Supra so dont expect and big discounts from either Toyota or BMW on these cars as there are not going to be a lot of them. The Z4 is being built to order. There's not a lot of inventory out there.

No comparison

There is no comparison between the E89 and the G29 cars. The E89 was a hairdresser's car and the G29 is a real sports car. People have tracked the G29 and say its handling is on par with the M2 Competition. Its only a big dissapointment to you because you dont own one. To those of us who have anted up the money we have a great car.
