Lightbulb And THIS is Exactly Why I Chose EPSON For My Home Theater

Closing in on nearly a year and I (as well as any who have visited) continue to be impressed with my Home Theater setup. My Epson 5040UB is simply amazing and well worth every buck I spent on it. No matter if I'm watching DirecTV, Blu Ray, 4K from my MINIX Neo, or playing XBOX One. Everything displayed on my 135in screen is phenomenal.
I strongly recommend that anyone considering a projector, look no further.

I'm running an 8 year old JVC RS2 that I still love. I think about upgrading from time to time, but in the end I'm a cheap b@$t@rd and still very happy with it!

We have a 10 year old ceiling mounted projector and 100in screen in a house we bought earlier this year. Audio is through a Sony STR-DG710. It all works but the projector only has input for composite (I think). So low resolution and not compatible with much.

So if I replace it with something like this, can/should I still use the Sony or is that another expense (along with pulling a high quality HDMI cable through the ceiling? I will probably have to or want to do something when the bulb goes since they are so expensive - don’t want to put more money in this projector (original cost was over $10k from what I can locate!)

For those of you with a projector - is it worth it to buy/install a screen, or is it as good to buy the screen paint, and paint the wall where you're going to project? I'm using paint would be cheaper, and not as intrusive if using the room for something other than just a media room - but does it work as well? I've got a den with windows, etc., which I can black out the room when needed. I can also conceal a projector, but the screen is a challenge.

I don’t know the answer but I do know paint is cheaper than a screen, so I’d consider painting, evaluate, and then decide about a projector.

With ours, I have a faint hope that the 100 inch TVs will fall in price enough to replace the projector at a reasonable price - we’ll see if I can wait that long!

A 100in TV will NOT be under $10k anytime soon.

Keep in mind, this was nearly a year ago. Ebay. Negotiated that price. And yes, it was new.

Having said that, I would easily pay $2,500 for it today.

I've seen images from old school projectors. There is simply no comparison to a new gen unit today! Now the question is this... How often do you watch content on it? For me it's on the weekends. I still have an 80in LCD TV downstairs I watch daily.
But if you have a dedicated media room, I absolutely recommend you upgrade to HD I and even a newer 1080p projector. The difference is immense!

I have a 135in Silver Ticket from Amazon for @ $350. I can say without ANY hesitation, I am beyond happy!
Keep in mind, if you choose to paint, you will have to be meticulous in prepping the wall and painting flawlessly and then you have to worry about "borders". On my screen, it uses black velvet borders that absorb any ambient light from the projector.
Hope this helps.

True. For me when it comes to Home Theater... Bigger is always Better!!

My screen upstairs fills up the entire wall with sharpness that rivals any TV. I can't ever go back after having this much viewing area.

Yes - I didn't think about the ambient light - thanks!

Did you end up running an HDMI cable from the projector back to your AVR? I know there's the wireless HDMI from last year but nowadays I wonder if it's been improved?

Low and behold: https://www.amazon.com/Hisense-100-i.../dp/B076W789G7

Now if you want popular name brand like SONY, here's one for $60k or $2,500 month financing:

Great question! I use wired connections if at all possible. There is bound to be some degradation of transfer with all the plethora of electronic devices and WiFi going on.
My setup is a HDMI cable running from the Epson directly into my Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3070. From there, it handles all media input and output: DirecTV, XBOX, Android Media Player, Blu Ray, etc.
