Hard Top?

Is there a hard top that will be offered? Everything I've seen in the configuraron and buying guides suggests soft top only.

Any insights?

Everything I read says Z4 is soft top only; the Toyota Supra is a hardtop with some rumors speculating they may offer a soft top version in the future. I'd have more interest in a hard top Z4..but at their asking prices...more inclined to consider a 2 series coupe.

To be clear, I'm asking about a hard top convertible.

There is no indication BMW is thinking of producing a hard top convertible in the G29 Z4 or for that matter in the G23 4 Series replacement either.

He may have meant an optional removable hard top. Still highly doubtful, anyway.

While there may eventually be after-market hard tops, or even a BMW accessory hard top as was the case with the E85 Z4, you will never see a built-in folding hard top that from the factory in the G29 Z4. The fundamental design philosophy of the car was to return it to a more sporting nature. A major enabler of that was the change from the folding hard top convertible design of the predecessor E89 car to the folding canvas top seen in the new G29 Z4. This lowers weight and the car's center of gravity, and is simpler mechanically.

It's not lighter and more sporting than a coupe version though lol. BMW marketing cracks me up .

I think the point is the car is lighter this way than with hard top, not lighter than previous car.

Correct. If you could buy the G29 Z4 with your choice of either a canvas top or a folding metal top like the previous E89 Z4, the car equipped with the folding metal top would be heavier, have a higher center of gravity, and less trunk space with the top stowed, than the canvas top version.
