Report wireless charging overheating to SA

With all of the discussion recently regarding wireless charging overheating issues, I thought I should start a new thread for reporting the issue to BMW. More specifically, when I mentioned it to my SA at my recent oil change appointment, every one of the SAs pleaded ignorance claiming they'd never heard of the issue before. At my suggestion, one of them even went on to BimmerPost and saw all of the posts regarding the issue but then again claimed they're not aware of any issues with it.
That tells me the issue isn't being reported or documented enough.

I ask that all of you who have the wireless charger and have experienced the overheating to please report it to your SA at your next appointment and request they document the problem. Unless BMW becomes aware of the scale of the problem, they'll never try to fix it.

good luck with that :-)

it's not a safety feature, i don't think they will do much about it.

It took 3years to get a satnav bug fixed that was present on all G series models with dutch language, and that was software, i bet for hardware its even more diffucult.

Is it the same with the wireless charger in other bmw models?

I'm not sure it's an Apple problem. I think it's more a BMW problem.

When I had my 3 Series and was active on the G20 boards, other people reported overheating and such using Samsung and Pixel as well.

While we have all been waiting around since 2019 for BMW or apple to do something about this (snooze….) I custom designed a cooling fan that has solved the problem for a number of G29 folks. The details are available in the thread I posted below.

I can confirm that after 2 days of light use my iPhone 15 Pro is now getting the error!

I never use Apple Pay, so I don't even know if I will bother to fix it. I might if I keep getting the error message pop up.

FYI, it affects the whole NFC chip, so if you use the digital key that won't work anymore either.

Never use the digital key. I will get it repaired/replaced, but probably not until Apple and BMW both game plan on how to do it efficiently.

In the meantime, rest of the phone works fine.

My iPhone 6s overheats on wireless, coincidentally the case I have for it is metal and it will not charge in the case so I had to take it off to charge. So instead of taking the case off for it to charge then overheat I connected a wire to the USB port and just plug it in and don't have to take off the case it doesn't overheat, it charges and I just lay it on the charging pad which is a convenient place to stash it, problem solved.

Are you sure you mean iPhone 6s? Because those definitely don't support wireless charging, took quite a few years for the iPhone to adopt that feature.

The damn thing is a safety risk

I cant tell ya how many times on a long trip where I need apple maps on the screen and the phone is in the wireless charging slot and the phone overheats and shuts down they whole phone and I lose my nav directions. That wireless pad is a safety hazard! Im driving down I95 and suddenly trying to figure out why I have no map on the screen, then fumbling for the wire, trying to plug the damn phone in to the USB port at 75MPH. How can BMW not know this thing is a fire and a safety risk?
