Angry Can't Purchase More Miles Before Acura Lease End?

my mom's rdx got roughly 1.5 years until 3 year lease is up at 12k annual (36k total). right now she is at 31k so i called acura and spoke to both the lease director and a sales man and both said i can't buy extra mileage and im like wtf is this true??? based on the contract it is .20 per mile !!!

for bmws i know you can buy extra miles at a discount rate before XXX of lease end. my contract says .10 per mile but .20 from acura???

You can think about turning the car in early for another Acura. Seems like they are trying to screw you there. Good luck!

Thats free money to them. They prolly figure to make a couple easy grand off your mom due to not knowing how many miles she'll be driving.

Do most companies offer that? I know BMW does but I thought that it was unique. I will probably be bumping mine from 12K to 15K within the near future.

yes it's true they're not trying to rip you off.
You typically cannot purchase extra mileage after the contract has been signed and you drive away with the car.

Buying extra mileage lowers the residual value of the vehicle on a lease.

So asking to buy more mileage now is like asking to re-negotiate a contract.

My BMW lease contract says $.14 for extra miles ($.20 otherwise). But I barely drive the car so after a year, it still has like 6k miles.

Other cars I've leased (MB, Audi, Land Rover, Infiniti, and even Acura/Honda) all offered a discount in miles. However, they also stipulate that you must buy the extra miles within a certain time frame or they won't honor the deal. You need to read your contract and find out more info about that to see if this applies to your case.

I love how they make you pay for excess mileage, but when you turn in the car way under they do nothing for you.

If she's averaging over 20K miles a year, leasing probably wasn't the best idea.

However, it doesn't surprise me that they may not let you buy more miles since she'd be over the 45K mile mark anyway when she returns it. The way they see it, they're losing either way, so they might as well make you pay more to offset the depreciation.

Leasing and paying a little in mile overages is still a better deal than financing it.

Honda Financial charges .15 per mile when the MSRP of the vehicle is under $30k, and .20 per mile when it's over $30k. Pretty sure they don't offer any opportunity to buy them at a discount in advance like BMW does.

Wait it out a little. When she's pushing 36-40k, it's time to talk to the dealer. As others have said, if she leases another Acura they will likely let her out of the lease early (and quite possibly forgive a couple of thousand miles over).

Next time, it may be a good idea for her to lease with 15k miles per year. Paying a little extra per month will help minimize (but probably not eliminate) what she'll have to pay in overages.
