Child/adult support?

My X (15 years ago) is trying to get child support for my 24-year old son. I paid full up until he was 18 even though I had him 40% of the time. Have any of you guys/gals received requests for continued child support from your X's until your kids are well into adulthood because they (the adult kid) doesn't want to move out of mom's/dad's house? And how did you go about it? I realize I helped create this human, but at 24 years old I want to be done. He is smart but is obsessed with those virtual reality computer games so he stays at home.. His mom just wants money to buy large screen TVs and new cars..

From a legal standpoint, your obligation to provide support ends when they reach adulthood. In this case, that is at the age of 18. You have no financial obligation to your ex at this point.

It sounds like she is the one having trouble moving the child out of the nest. You can offer any practical assistance to this that she may want but giving money is the last thing you should do. It will just reinforce the bad habits.

Depends on the laws in your state. 18-22 is the cut off and that's only if the child continues schooling from high school into college. Sounds like in your situation you have no legal obligation. I doubt there is any legal recourse she could do to force you to pay anything.
