All together it adds-up to a very meaningful entertainment (actually more like a a hobby at this stage), and also a way to extend one's gaming habits into later years, by making it more than about instant gratification and twitch reflexes (which also fade with age). Therefore I am personally surprised that flight-sims is such a dying genre nowadays, I personally blame those librul millennials with attention span of a gnat.
They are thriving very well actually. They are now just consolidated.

I used to love flight sim. I even still have a joystick. My version is ancient, though. Haven't "flown" in years.

I used to take off from NAS Weymouth and land at Logan airport in Boston. And I'd do the WWII flight sim with the B-17s and Focke Wulfs. Long time ago, though.

I loved flight-sim until I learned to fly - then it just never worked for me.

Just got word my company is going remote only globally. I guess I'll be heading to the beach house sooner than I had planned.

Feel your pain. Idiot we bought this house from built the patio up higher than the foundation sill so when it rains, water gets in, runs down and wicks into the framing. Get to rip out half the dining room wall and hardwood after we manage to get the root cause fixed.

With the new reality of WFH for the first time, I am giving serious thought to spinning up a VPN client on a device at home rather than being limited to just one computer. The [wonked] NAS could do the task. Doing research, spending up for a newer and higher-grade Synology NAS gets features like being able to run Intel-based Docker images and a few other things that the current one couldn't do even before it was broken.

A second idea that I had was to just build my own Linux-based NAS on a Raspberry Pi or something. I really don't need the Linux hand-holding that the Synology provides, but it is a convenient system/UI and add-on packages...when it works.

The third option is to spin up the VPN on a spare Pi, and "rent" storage on Amazon to build my own NAS.

As much as I'd like to spin up a full VMware ESXi host, I really don't need that horsepower or load on the electric meter.

Lots to think about while I am at home for COVID-geddon (my invented term).....
I built a Linux NAS on an old warhorse Dell Precision 7500 with 2 4-core 3GHz Xeons and 64GB of RAM. It uses 4 6-TB SAS drives in a ZFS volume. Runs great. I've done several home-built NAS boxes over the years, and this one's the beefiest. Reads and writes totally saturate a Gigabit Ethernet connection. I run NFS shares for my other computers and Plex. And it's a full-fledged Linux Mint desktop, so I can sit down and post shit on BP.

Have a look at ZoL - ZFS on Linux - if you're feeling adventurous.

Went analog Saturday. Took the 02 out for a cruise, no radio, no power anything, no news, and the "A/C" on full blast.

Sunday, I tossed a butt on the egg and social distanced myself.

I'm going to my investment property today, we evicted our tenants earlier in the month. I have to paint etc. My son and his partner are going to move into it at the end of the month.

I'll be home this afternoon for a soak in my hot tub with my wife, she's a senior exec with government and they've all been told to work from home for the next couple of weeks. The sun is shining and the birds are singing.

I may take the 993 in this week for it's spring preparation.

Each time I think yoo're ok, you go and post some hateful crap like this.

2 client calls. Two hours of writing. Pick up the coils for my baby's 3 series and replace them. Meeting with my boys after the coils are done to hoist a few. Corona Premier, of course.

I think I could deal with a two week lockdown. I can WFH, so I wouldn't even need to go to work.

This is a pretty good explanation and simulation of exponential spreading of the virus and how to slow it down. As they admit, it's greatly simplified, but the point remains.

Speaking of NAS'. I guess I should do what I keep putting off and migrate my virtual file server from Windows Server 2008 to Server 2016. Should also fire up my backup system and back up the data I have on it since it's been a while.

Since the geeks are sharing their system specs, here's what I have running my virtual file server:

VMware vSphere 6.5
Dell PowerEdge R730: dual Xeon E5-2640 procs, 256 GB RAM, 40 Gb Emulex NIC, Qlogic 8Gb FC HBA
Dell Compellent SC4020: 25TB 24 2.5 drive FC SAN

Today I start working from home, which will be interesting since most of the client sites I support have nobody there.

Plans for outside of work include:

-Working out in my home gym
-Doing online work training for more certifications
-Working out in the yard/on house projects
-Doing maintenance/mods to my/family/friends' vehicles
-I fix small engines as a side business and people have been dropping off equipment before spring for me to work on
-Going for cruises in my Jeep
-Helping my 80 year old grandparents so they don't have to go anywhere
-Cleaning up some trees I cut on grandpa's property before winter
-Starting some vegetable plants from seed for this year's garden/apocalypse survival
-Meeting up with non-infected Tinder hoes.

I have plenty to keep me busy.

Damn - that sounds bad! A friend had something similar - the previous owner created a concrete patio out the back of the house, and it sloped towards the house! So they ended up having to replace the back walls (concrete floors thankfully) and put a roof over the patio to prevent major pooling of water.

As much as I'm in favor of individual liberties and lack of government involvement in just about everything, this and the other similar post should/would not have happened if a building inspector had to approve the work. It's amazing, the stupid shit people will try to do to a house. And when it goes bad, it affects everyone's property values negatively.

Currently at work. I'd like to see what I could find to do to occupy myself if forced to stay home. I run non-stop from thing to thing. Being forced to stay home might be a good thing for many of us. I have so many things to get done at home, I'd gladly take it on the chin and stay home. Hopefully work will pay us to work from home, so I can get paid to work on things I can't get to because of my work, gym/girlfriend schedule.....er I mean multitask.
