My new Z4 M40i
Been with BMW for quite a while, both cars and bikes. Not riding any longer though. Currently have a M550 and the GF an X3 M40i. We bought a new Miata in April and couldn't stay out of it. Put 7300 miles on it in four months. Once we found how much top down enjoyment we were having, I knew what we had to explore.......Z4. A demo drive at my local dealership was a quick convince and as luck would have it, a nearby dealer owed him a dealer trade and four days later I have a Z4 M 40i sitting in our driveway! Couldn't be happier. Built as I would have ordered it, except I would not have done the active cruise control, but an initial drive for a short distance on I-96 yesterday impressed me with the automatic speed adjustments. I added the gloss black trunk emblems from IND Distribution. Not sure why with the shadow line trim they left the trunk emblems in cerium, but they're gone now. Same with the gray lower rear bumper cover trim. Going to have that painted gloss black. Did my last 550 the same way. Other than that, probably the only mods I will do. The car is great as is.
Oh and we traded in the Miata and my M550 is for sale! Last edited by Rotherd31; 10-20-2021 at 04:28 PM.. |

Congratulations! That's a great color combo. The black wheels are a PITA to keep clean but they look wonderful when they are.
I like the active cruise control though I sometimes get annoyed because it works so smoothly - often I don't realize the car has slowed down to match the vehicle in front. Charles

Nice color combo! I also like the active cruise. I find that it works well and feels fairly natural.

[QUOTE=Rotherd31;27999941]Wow, that's nice! I think the red caliper look much better than the blue one. You are so lucky! Our local dealer would never have something like that to offer....

Yeah I literally even asked for the red calipers from BMW when putting together my build and they said NOPE.

I never really looked at the S30 but it could only be a free option on the M40. I selected it because I thought that was the only way to get the M brakes. My misunderstanding.

Hey Westside
To answer your question, yes, I got the power stop ceramic pads installed three weeks (1500 miles) ago. This is my fifth car that I've installed them on. C-7, M4, two M550's and now my Z4. Brake dust is non existent on these, just as it was on the other four vehicles. Some light road dust, but that's it. Same brake pedal feel as the OE pads and zero noise. No grinding no squealing, nothing. Here's the part numbers for our cars. (Z) 17-1867 (fronts) and (Z) 16-2220 (rears). Same pads (material) front and rear, but they label the fronts with a 17 number as they also include hardware, if needed. Power Stop Street Ceramic. IMPORTANT!! Follow their instructions to the letter for the burnishing (bedding) process. Understand that there will be a light pad dusting after this process, but after that, zero pad dust. I've always followed their burnish procedure. Did it this time on an isolated country road not far from the dealership after I got them changed out. Make sure you keep a close eye on your mirror while doing the process for any vehicles coming up behind you! Hope I've answered your question. |

Do you know if anything in your warranty would be affected if you use this type of replacement part from a 3rd party maker? |

The dealership installed them for me. Two hours labor @ $150.00 per hr. I've done some changes in the past but didn't want to mess with them this time. Absolutely no issue with any warranty issues because of different vendor's pads. Even had a warped rotor on my M4 that they replaced and no issues with PS pads being on the car. FYI: The OE pads are Brembos.

Is there any noticeable difference in the stopping distance in dry conditions or in wet weather? |

Certainly not that I can tell without some controlled testing. PS says stopping distance with their pads is equal to or better than OE pads, but without controlled testing, who knows.
ALSO: If ordering pads go by my part numbers, their site is wrong for the fronts. I brought it to their attention after talking with their tech line guru and it has not as yet been changed. The front pad part# was given to me by their guru and both the fronts and rears are a perfect fit. |
