I usually turn it on at 60F. Or earlier if a cat or dog sneezes. Well cat. The husky likes it cold.

That reminds me of one of my girlfriends. I met her on a Wednesday, took her back to the ranch and knocked it out that night. Then on Saturday we went to the L.A. auto show. We were sitting at the Yard House drinking beer and somehow the subject of BF/GF came up. I asked her if she wanted to be my GF and she said yes.

Why fight it?
At our homes A/C is set at 68 in the summer and heat is set at 70. Makes zero F'n sense but much more important things in life. I also feel the earlier comment about the pool. Same situation. Heat for 6 hours so she can sunbath on a floaty for a hour. So be it.

Our system is so complex you need a full time building engineer. Which was me until I automated. Now it’s largely set and forget using auto with cool & heat set points. It also samples the outside air temp & humidity and does anticipation correction based on this as well as occupied/unoccupied state. Humidity is always a concern for me not only for comfort but to keep the house and valuables stable.
Next house I’ll throw geothermal into the mix.

In the summer my A/C is set to 70. In the winter my heat is set to 68 during the day and 65 at night, and I also sleep with the window cracked open in the winter to keep the bedroom colder. Drives the GF crazy and shes is usually completely under the covers snuggled with the dog and I'm half out of the covers and comfortable.
I'm also the one that when out backpacking in the mountains I'm half out of my sleeping bag with no shirt when it's 30deg at night, and shes wearing sweats and a hoodie and completely covered in her bag like a cocoon. But it works out. She knows I'm uncomfortable if it's too warm, and she would rather wrap up in a blanket anyways. |

The answer to this question is 12:40 PM EDT on 10/24. I was shivering at 66F with the windows closed because ticker weak, and reached for the thermostat. Ran the heat for 45 minutes, until the chill was gone. Then, back to off mode before the DW came home from her errands.....

It used to be dad's b-day (12/9) was when the heater could be turned on. As he has seen 82 of them 12/9s I notice the furnace gets lit a lot sooner now.
At home, the settings are 60/68, with time intervals to coincide roughly with occupancy. I have to take a look at inside temps periodically to determine if I need to fire up the pilot light and change the filter on the furnace. Generally, it's mid to late December before I need to do anything. |

There is a difference in how the air feels when the heat is on tho. In our house 70 deg with A/C feels much colder than 70 deg with heat.

Never, I live in SE Queensland. Apart from a possible few freakish low temp weeks during July/August, totally unnecessary. I wish these cars had cooled seats. Leather seats are overrated.

When it gets cold and you start digging out those thin jumpers, have the Hive set on 18.5c and the heating comes on automatically.

Still not on, this is a record for me. We get up in the morning and the inside temp has been 64F, sweater on, hot coffee and the house usually warms up a few degrees in the sun, I'm holding out until Nov. 1st.
