It has CVT which saps all joy out of it. It's pretty small and slow for the price, but it gets good gas and has nice leather.

consumer reports says '...lacks the refinement and luxury you'd expect from Lexus'. reliability better than average owner satisfaction slightly below average.

my friend has one, he's not passionate about cars and he's perfectly happy with his and his other car is a Honda Accord.

personally I'd keep the celica which I think are great looking

My wife had hers since new, 2014? Near 66k miles, very reliable, only oil changes so far. It gets the job done for point A to point B, it's slow but 42+mpg with some 18" and wider tires (I put coilovers on it). She loves the car and plans to keep it forever. The center console is a bit dated, the CD player and the display isn't fancy but it works. Car looks great and doesn't look like most Hybrids on the road.

Friend had one. She hated it. Had all sorts of issues where her dealer had to involve some Lexus corporate engineer to try to figure out what was going on with it. If I recall correctly, it was around the battery or charging system. It spent so much time in the shop where eventually Lexus agreed to extend the warranty on the car due to all the aggravation and time it spent in the shop.

Shortly after getting the warranty extension, she sold off the car to Carmax and bought another car....which involved other headaches of which I warned her about buying it. Oh well.

These use the Prius drivetrain so are pretty solid and reliable. It’s not going to have the refinement of an LS but it is the low end of Lexus. It’s unfortunate they stopped making them because they were a nice alternative for someone looking for a nicer Prius.

All I know is that 0-60 is over 10s. There's just no reason to put up with that these days.

The UX took its place. Hard to make a business case for a tarted up Prius especially when SUV's are selling so well.

With the electric and gas engine combined, it only has 134HP. Not even considering the CVT, the joy was left out from the factory.

I didn’t say t made good business sense. I merely said it was a nicer alternative compared to a Prius.

Isn't this sort of true of anything? I'd imagine Polaris makes a lot of things nicer than a Prius.

Okay, so that's one vs infinity minus one? I'll give you SMART too, maybe you're onto something.

i am just looking for a DD on days I dont drive the M2.

While I was waiting for the M2 to be released I had a '14 Corolla. I loved the car for what it was. Just A-B transportation. I'm not expecting to do canyon runs. I appreciate all the feedback. Other than being extremely boring, it seems to be a good DD.

Past cars in order

'72 Cutlass Supreme
'67 GTO
'70 Z28
'84 Cavalier
'84 Cutlass Supreme
'88 Z24
'91 Beretta GTZ
'94 Probe GT
'97 Sable
'95 GSR SCCA prepped
'99 M3
'01 GSR
'03 G35 6mt
'04 TL
'08 TL-S
'11 135
'14 Corolla
'00 Celica GTS
'16 M2

With that said, you're right, it's not an LS, but compared to what I know.

Thanks guys!

I DD one 150miles/day. Bought it for the wife with 30k and it now has 140k. Nothing but normal maintenance-still has original brakes!

This is Lexus #4 out of 5 for us with the wife currently in an RX. The CT is obviously not on the higher end of Lexus cars but it's still nice. We plan to keep it forever

I love the Celica, but it's been a winter DD its entire life until I bought it 4 years ago. It also has been a magnet for idiots. It used to be semi-nice condition w/some rust in the normal places. But now it has a banged up rear deck lid by the license plate. Rust is eating away the left rear quarter panel along with a huge dent This accident caused it to have a salvage title). The front left fender just got smashed in by some workers in my Condo complex (Happened while I was on vacation)

But as far as mechanical, I think it is tip-top.
New tires
all 4 calipers/rotors/pads/parking brake within 15k miles
new gas tank and fuel pump.
newer plugs
new filters
new clutch within 35k miles
a/c recharge
all fluids replaced within 30k miles
New belts within 30k
new trunk struts

But the creaks, rattles, road noise, loud exhaust (leaky & TRD muffler) are starting to make me want a new DD. I think i will keep it until something major breaks. I think the suspension components are my guess.

If you're into Lexus, an AWD IS250 seems pretty decent especially models before 2014.
Before they uglified it.

Here's a 2012 for $16K with less than 30K miles

miiipilot : I owned a CT200h F Sport three cars ago for a little more than two years. Had to get the hybrid Jonesing out of my system. Impressions:

- Interior is phenomenal. Even the OEM stereo wasn't half-bad.

- The CVT is horrific, but necessary. People talk about hating turbo lag. Well, CVT-lag is even worse.

- Power is low, but the key is (as with driving a lot of other multi-mode cars) driving in Sport mode. Responsiveness goes up exponentially and allows a reasonable facsimile of an actual modern auto transmission. The CT is actually fairly quick off the line and at speeds under 60 mph in this mode because of the torque available.

- Handling isn't bad. It's made better with two options, both of which I had on my F Sport:
1). Lexus performance springs/anti-roll bar (came as part of the F Sport package). Incidentally, these springs/bars were available as an aftermarket option, too -- for a time, until Lexus/Toyota realized that the springs were too stiff for the shock towers in 'regular' CTs. It then stopped making them available aftermarket.
2). Lightweight wheels (I had OZ Superleggeras on mine - the one 'mod' I made to the car). People who aren't familiar with low-power hybrids don't realize how much of a difference light wheels make to responsiveness and handling dynamics.

- You can have the car serviced at any Toyota dealer for about half the price of what a Lexus dealer would charge.

- Fuel efficiency is, as with a lot of hybrids, dependent on how you drive. In the city, I averaged right at about 30 mpg. I routinely saw 65-70 mpg on highway trips. Know that low-power hybrids don't have much of an advantage over, say, a Corolla in the city in terms of fuel efficiency.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand the mindset of depriving one's self of driving pleasure due to inclement weather. I spent roughly $60k on my car which is a lot. I want to get my money's worth FFS. Salty car? Wash, rinse, repeat.

it's parking at work I think was the issue.

Yeah, I love driving my 2-series in rain and slush but I'm very careful where I park.
