I remember moving out here to IL like it was yesterday. We came here because Wifey got a job offer she couldn't refuse. That job started 20 years ago today. Zoiks.

You remember buying beer, cigarettes and placing a bet at a shady bar for my grandpa while he waited in the car.
He was paralyzed and it was a tough for him to get in and out of the car.
I got some pork rinds, shot glass of beer and the change for my troubles.
I was 10 years old.

You bought beer off the shelf instead of from the cooler because room temp beer was cheaper.

That must be a long time ago. Couldn't even find anything related to a price differential on google search... All returns a related to the taste.

I remember my 1st warm beer (stout) was during a NATO cross-poll on an UK frigate back in the 70's.

I understand that I'm old when my back hurts. I especially think about this when I say that in my childhood everything was different and people were kinder... lol

This was mid-70s. I was reading an article about modern refrigeration the other day. They also commented on how expensive it used to be for stores to run refrigerated sections and that cold beer and soda was priced higher because of it. Most stores had a few refrigerated areas for milk and meat and such. Now even gas station marts have entire walls of refrigerated shelving. If I recall correctly, the difference in price wasn't huge. Maybe a buck. But when you and your buddies were pooling your change to come up with a couple of dollars for a 6-pack, it made a difference.

The stores used to do the same thing with soda and other beverages, charging extra if it came from the refrigerator versus a warm shelf.....

You know you’re old when…..you text your wife at noon “hey bunnies bunnies, wanna go out to a nice dinner date tonight and get some good food and maybe some wine?”

You get home from work, shower and put on sweatpants and the TV and done at 730 never to move from the couch until 10pm

I have so many stories to tell from the misadventures with my dad I should write a book.
Seeing the antiseptic reminds me of the time I helped tar the driveway.
On finishing I was covered up to my elbows.
Since soap and water was out of the question he had me run to the garage to get some paint thinner.
I grabbed the exact tin he had asked for.
I knew something was wrong from the second it touched my skin.
"Dad it feels like my arms are on fire!" "Oh stop it it, may sting a bit but it can't be that bad" as he inspects the tin closer he sees a faded piece of tape with some writing.
"Shit, this is the tin that I put paint stripper in" now it's time for water which is totally useless. " Wait here I'll be back"
He returns with a fresh beer and a bottle of Clorox powder. "This will do the trick"
It sort of worked as the tar was gone but so was a couple layers of skin from my little hands as they were as red as could be and starting to swell.
He stood back and surveyed his brilliance and finished the beer. He could see that the tears were forming as the pain set in so time for some levity.
"Now you can rob a bank and won't get caught because you don't have any fingerprints"
"Ware some of the works gloves for a couple days and don't tell mom"
