I’ve only had range anxiety twice. Once in my M3 on the BRP going up to Mt. Mitchell when the range estimate dropped from 80 to 30 in a very short period of time. We coasted back down and made it with 25 miles of range left. The other was in my model 3 perf when I did a mountain drive and back to the supercharger - the trip estimate was completely inaccurate even with my buffer for track mode up the mountain - arrived with 6 miles of range. Car was basically in limp mode.

Not in trip mode. The normally displayed estimated range is based on 240 wh/mi or so. But the trip range takes into account elevation changes etc. and factors in real time driving behavior and consumption, and you can see on the display how the range estimate is being affected and trending relative to initial estimate. I’ve done trips where it’s very accurate. If I push it a little, I need the aforementioned buffer. In this case it wasn’t enough.

In her defense, it looked like stop-and-go traffic all the way to her destination, which can quickly kill ICE range. (But if she had asked me, I would have said put it in eco mode and let the stop/start feature do it's thing.)

I think all-glass cockpits are an example of when newer isn't necessarily better myself.
VW totally ruined the current generation GTI & Golf R this way. Pretty happy with ID7 because it has physical controls. I practically grind my teeth every time a reviewer says the Z4 loses points for not having "the latest" version of iDrive, as if newer is always better. |

I couldn't agree more, I wish the Z4 came with analog gauges, really the only thing I want is for my iTunes to play through the stereo and that could be accomplished with a wire jack, all the electronic nonsense and safety nannies can go. The car would probably be 20K less.
