I upgraded to the iPhone 15 PM and Apple Watch Ultra2 today. Ive been able to add the digital key back to my Wallet but everytime I try to add it to my watch I get an error. Tried everything. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I also upgraded to the PM today. Coinicidentally, I received an email from BMW this evening that starts like this:

The BMW Digital Key function in your BMW Z4 has been prepared for enhanced functions via an update.

Sharing keys is now possible on Android devices, as well as between iOS and Android devices. If you have already set up your Digital Key, you can begin using this function if your smartphone is compatible and the software has been updated.

To set up your Digital Key, you must first activate your compatible smartphone as the digital main key. Each vehicle only has one digital main key which has permission to share and manage additional digital keys.

To activate via your smartphone: enter your BMW with both vehicle keys and your smartphone with this email. Choose one of the following options and follow the instructions:

I followed the instructions by clicking on the IOS icon in the email and it walked me through the process. I had to remove the phone from its case before it would register successfully. I also had to log back into the MyBMW app on my iPhone before the watch's key would show up in the wallet. I didn't receive any error messages during the process.

But what about the Watch? It's fine on my iPhone.

Do you have to have cellular functioning on the watch or does it work without it or as long as your phone is with you?

Good question. I don't know, haven't tried that scenario. It would be a rare situation for me to not have my phone and it's a bit inconvenient to have my watch laying on the tray rather than on my wrist.

I almost always wear my watch. My phone is usually with me, but sometimes it’s a pain in the ass like my Tesla you can’t get in my stupid Tesla without the phone.

Well, you can but still…

And I would prefer not to carry a car key at all times

I even hide a car key in my garage because I don’t want to go into the main house

I hear you. My digital key has always worked without exception but… when I took delivery, my SA gave me the digital key card and briefly went over the digital key’s operation and he specifically warned me “it usually works but sometimes it doesn’t”. Though his comment is perhaps based on earlier models and software, it has left me leery of depending solely on the phone and/or watch’s digital key.
I’m going to try it on local trips and attempt to build courage for longer ones.
