Powered Sub install?

Hello everyone. Wanted to make a new thread for people that are interested in installing a powered sub into their Z4s. My only complaint with my vehicle is that the bass is lacking. I have the Harmon kardon system for those that are wondering.

Anyways wanted to create this thread to see if there are other that perhaps done this install themselves and would like to chime in for those that are willing to do a little DIY haha. I’ve heard some users use the PowerEdge+ from JL Audio and I plan to go the same route. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Be sure to search this forum for such topics. Threads already exist for audio upgrades of our Z4 that may be useful.

As an aside, I’ve found opening the trunk delivers a considerable amount of bass - to the trunk

I was considering a sub upgrade for those times when not listening to the M40i exhaust note. The self-contained sub units merely require 12V connections and two speaker inputs. I was thinking about sourcing the male/female speaker plugs used as OEM connectors to make audio source taps, w/o cutting any original wires (easy on the warranty, in theory). The battery connection is very convenient for a trunk sub.

I've installed a JBL unit in a RAV4 in the past, and the results were very good. I built a plywood base and use the tie-downs in the trunk area for solid connections in case of an accident; but all is removable if required.

I don't need to break windows or attract the attention of all those on the street. Looking for a solid boost.

I had it professionally installed. JL audio prefab sub/amp box they wired in and gave me a bass knob to control it. It’s perfect. It does take up 1/5 of the trunk
