These tunes fit this car really well, I have found.

I can usually negotiate a rate of around 6-8 bucks a month for Sirius XM, which I find to be a good value, especially with their live music offerings. It's a no-brainer for me, since I also stream music to my home audio system every day too.
Sirius offered me a great deal, I think it was $110 for two years. But, I'm hearing impaired!

Yeah. You still have to play the little game every year with SXM by threatening to cancel until they give you the cheap rate. So $6/mo plus taxes and fees is a bit over $8/mo which is reasonable. Just 'renewed' my X5 subscription for another year. The Z4 is still on it's free first year.

I'm usually on Classic Rewind or Tom Petty Radio, occasionally Classic Vinyl or Deep Tracks.

Reminds me of BMW trying to sell me a maintenance plan with special emphasis on $400 cabin filters that should be replaced every year.......

in a convertible.... designed to be driven with the top down. mhmm.

Not only that, the cabin air filter is probably one of the easiest things to replace yourself. And you get buy the part for $45 for the OEM part or $25 for an effectively identical one from a reputable brand.

I don't do much maintenance myself anymore, but I still do the air filter, cabin air filter, and wipers myself. No way I'll pay even 1/2 hour labor for someone to do a job that's 15 minutes max.

SXM 98% of the time for me, top presets go from Octane, Turbo, Alt, U2, Bob Marley, 1st Wave... I think I'm at about 26 presets now.

They're a little creepy though, I got an email from SXM to add the Z4 to my account but the account I use for the X5 isn't on any of the BMW emails and I didn't log into my account in any way on my phone in the Z4. I have no idea how they knew the right email to spam for signing up the new car. I have a second account for my kid on a different email (which is the same as I used for BMW) so I wouldn't have been surprised to get the email on that account.

Heard "I can't drive 55" on my spotify playlist at lunch.

I also play this cancellation game with SXM every year to keep the monthly rate low.

I also do this with my online newspaper subscriptions and they all drop their pants to keep people as a customer.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I have to say I was a bit surprised some artists didn't make the cut like Phil Collins/Genesis, Allman Brothers, DMB, Beach Boys, Oasis, Steely Dan, Boston, Pearl Jam, REM, and Paul Simon.

Here's some random recommendations for you from a slightly different genre-
Alt-J
Beach House
Bon Iver
David Gray
The Smile
Teen Daze
Thievery Corporation
Tycho

I got a 2 or 3 month free trial from Sirius when I picked up my Z4. I liked all of the variety they had, much of which was perfect for my age and tastes. My favorites were The Moody Blues, Chicago and ELO.

David Grey is a little older and was peers with Bowie. Most of this music is post 2000's as I'm in my 40s. But I appreciate good music from all genres

I just pay the 50 bucks or so for XM (4 vehicles). Don't bother going through the rigmarole of pretending-to-cancel-to-get-a-lower-rate. It's one night out meal for one. I think it's worth it: there are some great channels. You can mix it up from Octane, to 60s, to 80's to Margherita time, throw in a bit of comedy and baseball...

I have a 1 year trial period and then usually let it transpire. Apple Music most of the time for me, and it has channels and recommendations and my saved playlists etc. I do premium so no commercials. My peloton favorites synch to a playlist also. The sound quality seems better than XM.

Sirius XM over satellite has a fairly low bitrate (equivalent to 128kbps MP3 IIRC). Their streaming app is more like 256kbps AAC, but still behind the premium versions of Spotify, YouTube Music, or Apple Music (all up to 320kbps+ AAC, which is very hard to distinguish from uncompressed audio even on a top of the line home system or headphones).

Exactly, which is why some music sources sound better than others on people’s HK systems.

Yes, the local audio (via bluetooth) is much better than Sirius. Haven't tried a USB stick, yet.
