Not necessarily available for purchase now or in the future (just like I never promise that the models I describe will all be on sale).

In other news, BMW has finally decided to be consistent and reconfigured 850i to M850i.

ynguldyn, I'm currently driving F30 340i with 355hp (MPPSK) Is it unreasonable to expect 380+ hp for the G20 M340i?

What about the X1... will it get a M35i model with the 300 hp B48 engine?

M2 CSL is a real thing.

G08 (X3 long base) = this will sell like hot cakes(in the USA) me thinks!!

So I guess we can expect a ~100 Hp delta between each engine: B48TU, B58TU, N63TU3 ?

I can't confirm (will add to the top post once I can), but I think it will be close.

It should, next year.

And they're thinking of leading with a 30e hybrid.

Yes, that's about right. Maybe a little more than 100hp.

Is it a mechanically revised B48 or just tuning to the existing motor?

It's about time the 330 was 300hp/280 or 290lbft - it should have always been that in the first place.

What do we think the chances are to be able to retrofit the current B48 to updated spec? Probably zilch....

Because it's easy to engineer things better when it's in your imagination

Hmm. I actually don't like this. The reason is, I somewhat disagree that it is consistent. Here's why:

1/2 - CLAR M35i, UKL M40i (special case for the coupe/convertible)
3/4 - M40i
5/6 - M50i
7/8 - M60i

To me that would be consistent. No N74-powered 8 Series? That just means there's no M Performance model. No S63-powered 7 Series? So, no M model.

Still hoping that they call the N63-powered G05 X5 the M50i instead of the 50i.

I should add, if/when the V12 is nixed from the 7, and they make the N63-powered 750i the M750i, that would at least clean things up. But I am not anticipating that to happen this generation, or even next. The V12 will survive as long as those who buy it keep demanding it; and I expect they will until the bitter end. That all being said, I recall that Audi has already confirmed that this is the last generation for their A8 W12 (article here http://europe.autonews.com/article/2...ng-big-engines, not quite confirmation, but the intention is there anyway).

Still, it's consistent, just in a different way: the top non-full-M is M Performance.

As for the absence of N74 in G15, I guess they figured 500hp is enough for a smaller and lighter car.

This could still happen: the decision to convert 850i to M850i came pretty late in its development cycle. Plenty of 850i testers on the road without M bits right now.

G12 LCI will have M760Li, so it could stay in production until the next 7 in 2022 (G51/G52?). At that point, I would expect V12 to become RR only.

So basically every BMW is now an "M"-something. So lame. I no longer understand the purpose of the M designation.

CSL, on the hand, may turn it all around.

Any word on the possibility of a future M8CS/CSL using the N74? I mentioned in another thread the weight increase over the S63 is only slight.

It always appears to be a wide open three pointer when you look at trying to claim that BMW has been "watering down" the lineup with M letters, however the simple fact is that BMW is strengthening the M brand from CSL to M sport.

http://autoweek.com/article/car-revi...n=awdailydrive

When reviewers are musing whether the M sport model is as good as or a better value overall than the M model.. that shows that your wide open three just became a Lonzo Ball airball.

The simple fact is that the M sport packages and M sport models are actually an application of *more* M throughout the lineup. Anyone that wants the BMW M division to do LESS WORK is a straight playa hater..
