LIGHTEST web browser (Win8.1)?

This CCleaner browser is driving me NUTS!!! I dunno why I got it, maybe I thought it was lighter/faster than Chrome (it's pretty much a carbon-copy, right?), IE, Firefox, but lately it has been especially crappy, freezing my computer, having lots of lags, clogging up my disk usage at 100%(!!) etc. Yes, I know my laptop is ancient but still, I'm not doing anything particularly intensive, just streaming shows/YouTube, that's about it. No gaming or whatever other stuff that takes lots of memory.

What browser would you guys recommend? I will keep this for secure banking but just to surf around, I don't mind having a no-frills, FAST browser even if it means the security is not as high as the intensive browsers.

EDIT:
my specs - (Win8.1, i3, 6GB)

Maybe there's a reason you haven't heard of it Tx for the Chrome suggestion, but that is probably the same thing and was resource-heavy too.

Chrome or firefox are really your two best options here. There are many others based off Chromium but imo, at that point you're better off just running chrome. Firefox is my choice as Chrome is doing away with ad-blocker extensions like uBlock Origin.

You're still on Windows 8.1? That might be part of your issue.

Perhaps, but like I said I don't do anything intensive. I don't like getting rid of stuff if it otherwise still works decently, i.e. I'm not those ppl who run out and get the latest iPhone.

Darn, I was fearing someone would say that. There's gotta be something lighter/faster?

Tried K Meleon, that was pretty garbage/useless. Trying Brave now.

If you don't like brave ...

then you have problems. but do keep in mind that virtually everything is built off the same mozilla code now. Simply a different appearance. If you really want to get away from that you'll need to go apple Safari or Microsoft Edge.

I have problems as in my hardware? I'm not clear what you meant.

Well, so far so good. *fingers crossed*

ccleaner use to be good with their products, but now they are focusing on money, I would avoid it.

I also stay away from small independent browser, brave got few misshoot here and there.

I'll go Opera too. light enough, good support.

I didn't realize a browser being "resource heavy" was an issue anymore in 2022

But I suppose with you still running windows 8... we're talking about some outdated tech. Windows 8.1 is nearing its end of life - January 2023.

I personally just use Chrome and it's served me very well for many years. I've tried some of the other browsers like Firefox and Opera, but keep coming back to Chrome.

Tx for all your comments.

I tried Opera but funnily enough it was heavy as well. Right now, somehow Brave is better even though they all supposedly have shared infrastructure.

What’s the laptop spec? This is likely to be massively influential on the performance, even for basic browsing, given how advanced web pages are now, versus 5 years ago.

An i3, 6GB of RAM and likely an old spinning hard drive (not solid state) will be slow with any browser these days.

Ok, so I guess my one day or so honeymoon w Brave is over, the disk usage is going nuts again heading always near 100%...sometimes there's a reprieve and it goes to 30-50%. I tried switching off services like Superfetch, Windows Search, etc, but doesn't seem to have much effect. I wonder if it's a virus? I'm going to dl Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and see what happens.

If there are any IT experts or other ppl w advice, please let me know.
