Probably not 100% necessary, but it takes like 2 minutes to remove, so I am just going to play it safe. Especially since I don't really know how my local dealership service center reacts to any sort of modification. I have read some dont care as long as the reason its in for isn't caused by the mod, but I have seen post that some are more strict. So I just don't want to deal with them.

In the old days, I had a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4, with some mods (boost controller, injectors, intake, downpipe, exhaust). The dealer knew about them and even helped set them up. I blew the transfer case and they covered it. They had another VR4 that they did all the work on, that had a ton of mods and they hid all of the electronics and monitoring hardware under the seats, so the guys wife wouldn't know about them.

I wish that dealer was still around and sold BMWs.

Why risk it? Especially since it’s literally 3 minutes to uninstall it

And also since they might note the presence on some log somewhere, such that if you brought it in for a problem, they'd know it had it. Potential future problems.

^^ THIS If you think the car (or Big Brother) is not watching you, you are crazy. While not a programmer, I suspect BMW has built in an algorithm that records certain settings/levels in a log for just this very reason. If the car exceeds some established threshold they can point to that to deny a repair.

It's just not worth it in my book for 20-40 hp on an already quick car.

Do you really think it's necessary to remove it just for an oil change?

I would say yes asd the tech may note it in the car's file and then you have a possible future warranty claim denial. Some dealers are dinan authorized so you pay them to install and now they have to warrant any claims

I installed the JB+ today. I like the extra boost. I would say this is a good mod if you want to keep it simple, affordable and incur a slight bump in performance. S30i.

No offense, but answers to most of the questions you seem to ask in this forum are only a single Google search query away.

In California, 93 octane is simply not available anywhere. Given it's the largest market in the country, it's definitely not a problem for warranties.

I had a jb4 on my stinger for about a year. There are dynos showing it gives around 70 hp on 93 and up to 100 if you run an e30 mix. Looks like similar numbers for the b58 engine according to their website. Well worth the money, especially since you can find them used and resell if you want to move on.

Dinan has been moving away from matching the manufacturer warranty. I have a Dinan chip tune, Dinan air intake, M performance exhaust and a Pedal Commander in my 2019 M240i (it’s out of warranty), and that car is so well sorted that it feels like it could give my C8 Corvette a run for its money. That being said, I would not do a chip tune on a car still under warranty unless the tuning company backs the manufacturer warranty and is reputable. I had a modified Audi TTRS and when the transmission went, the dealer refused to repair under warranty.

It did, but luckily it was leased through my company, so the company paid for the transmission repair. I knew it would happen again, so I immediately traded the car in for an Audi RS5. Once the lease on the Audi ran out I went back to BMW’s.

My dealer just told me to have the Dinan installed at a local BMW Dinan shop to avoid any issues.

Dinan puts out great products. Just be sure to read the fine print for the software tune they have for the current model Z.

“ DINANTRONICS X does not carry the factory matching warranty that Dinan is known for. DINANTRONICS X's warranty is a 1-year, product only warranty, that does not cover consequential damages or labor reimbursement.”

The installer my sales guy sent me to used to work at BMW and he said he's installed dozens of these when he worked at the dealer.

So as not to hijack the OP’s question, I have not personally used the JB tune, but have hear lots of good feedback on their product.

Warranty is always the biggest issue. APR completely abandoned me when I had problems with my Audi, but the issue wasn’t the chip. It was the transmission failure due to not being able to handle all of the extra torque.

Today, I pretty much stick with Dinan. To Matthewstorm, if you can find a BMW dealer that does Dinan installs, that has to be the safest route for warranty coverage. I know that BMW dealers did this in the past. I’m not sure about present day. My local BMW dealer said that BMW is getting like Audi in their denial of warranty coverage for cars that show aftermarket work such as tunes.

I think the Z40i with either the JB or Dinan tunes would be fantastic. That is the main reason I was shopping Z40i’s. I ended up getting a C8 instead, but the Z40i on a tune would be running comparable HP/weight ratio.
