How to clean out side scoops / "gills"

I’ve looked a lot on the detailing forum, but there seems to be only a lot of discussions about PPF…

We had some snow in my area and my county put down a lot of dirt on the roads. I’ve washed the car twice since and just noticed a really large build up of fine dirt and dust especially in the upper “gill” on both sides.

Anybody have a technique or favorite tool the clean that out? Just spray the hose in there, use a long reach soft tool, spray out with air?

What do you think?

Thanks,
David

I wash them with high pressure water and then stick microfiber cloths in them.

Brushes work best. You can find soft ones for this purpose on Amazon. And pressure washing. I also had mine covered in PPF.

I spray them with water first, roll up my microfiber cloth like a sausage, stick it in each slot and twist it inside. Sometimes I stick my fingers inside the cloth. Then I spray them again and use a clean cloth to dry them off.

Damn, now I'm going to have to go look in those gills! I never thought of it before.
