Is it about 3 steps left of most of the god and gun nuts here but FMD this government is terrible.
@Alfisti $2k per month, correct? Is there more, or is that the total of all direct cash assistance from the national government to consumers?

$24k/yr x 16 million workers (approx) is approx CAD $384b. Is that about right?

Alfisti Ok. Do you know the main elements of direct cash assistance, or is there a website that summarizes all of them?

I’m not seeing squillions yet, in direct cash assistance to individuals.

Government direct cash assistance to individuals has been assigned as the reason for many aspects of economic improvement, for example used car price increases, during 2020. Doing the math, one finds this is not the case. At least in the US and Canada.

If that's the case and you're worried then I would wait, let things stabilize, and feel confident in pulling the trigger on the car you truly want without major concern looming over you.

Thought I would add this here. Rented this yesterday, PP2 and optional active exhaust, i.e. how I would spec it.

I have rented mustang GT's before and again I am convinced the Coyote is brilliant, what an engine. It was hard to gauge the effectiveness of the PP2 package as I had the kids in the car and it's a rental so a bit...edgy... about dinging it. It is quite compliant though, more than I would have expected on some brutal roads.

In terms of the key question, could I DD this and save $4k a year on running a 3rd car? Initially I thought no, with 2 kids in the car, both behind me, it felt very cramped. Then I had a drive alone and I thought yeah, I could do this. The key issue is my eldest son, he will be old enough to ride n the front seat in 2 years so that would make things much, much easier (I can then push my seat back where I need it).

Despite the PP2 package, I feel the car's size and weight, especially the big engine over the front end. I can also confirm I have to go drop top, the kids had an amazing time n the back, they really, really enjoyed it. Change down a few gears and get off the throttle with the top down and it is ear to ear grins, or even yelling.

Biggest issue for me is the tranny, even in Sport+ and selecting gears myself, the delay in shifting is absolutely not good enough.

I think this test drive day confirmed I want a smaller, lighter, less powerful car. The mustang is OUTSTAND theatre but if fooling about a bit, say to amuse the kids in the back, despite a 10 speed transmission if you tickle the throttle you go from 60 to 120 in the same gear, you don't even change up a gear. Now that's a compliment tot he magnificent mill but on the street, maybe less power at higher revs is what I am looking for.

That makes a little more sense to me, as opposed to what I thought I was reading in the other thread.

It's hard though...cars are not getting lighter. I doubt the new M2 will be lighter, maybe heavier, given the M240 x-drive is already over 3700.

Porsche Cayman should be high up on that list (in the quest to find a light-ish car) and IME, don't listen to what people say about the 718, it's a marvel of a machine and there's a reason it's always on top-10 sports-car lists. I regularly race against one (4cyl) and it is every bit as worthy as the previous generation. If for no other reason, just to experience the radical difference in dynamics, the steering, the difference in weight on the front, etc.

No Cayman, MUST be 2+2 (I have 2 small kids) and convertible and naturally aspirated, these are non-negotiable.

The list has to be short with those requirements. Which vehicles are they?

Yeah basically Camaro, 911, Mustang really. Other option is E92 M3 but I do a lot of short trips and that engine is a bit of a princess.

I came home with the mustang and my kids went totally ballistic, no way i can drive off with just one of them.

Camaro Convertible could be a good option. While not as pretty as a Mustang, it is a much better driver's car in comparison, albeit it is not going to be any smaller.

The 911 market is honestly insane, and with the chip shortage continuing for another year or two, I'm not sure its ever gonna go back down.

Lexus IS500 is the obvious choice. If your kids don't have legs, then maybe 911.

Well, this one did not age well. If you'd pulled the trigger on a 997 GTS back then you'd be $15k ahead, maybe more, on what the car would sell for now.

There were very few for sale back in 2016 when I was shopping for one, the writing was on the wall then, now some are going for MSRP.

I'd go a V8 M3 before the lexus. Rear seat space is not an issue, as my kids grow I can throw the big guy up front, his brother behind him, no issue. Mrs would rarely come out with us as her car would do the serious family drives.

Old cars are overrated IME. It is never close to 100% and the mechanical issues are not worth it in the long run. These cars are not designed to go indefinitely anymore IMO.
