Just a cage and radio gone. but faster is faster.
I dont see this as a bad thing, this a full featured luxury road car roadster vs a purpose built track car. I'd be happy with anything thats even close to the Type R in this kinda package. |

However, tire makes a huge difference for track time. Fact that Honda does not specify what tire they used to set the record time seems suspicious . BTW, MPSS or MP4S is nowhere near the track purpose tire. Compared to Bridgestone RE71r, it will be about about 1~2 seconds slower in 60 sec course. (can be more or less, depends on track) |

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. I recall the r-comps and near slicks from the late 199x and early 200x, tires like the original Victoracers and the early Toyo RA1s being about as grippy as TODAY’s latest Michelin too end summer tires (but without the road manners, longevity, and WET handling). I ran Falken Azeris RT-615 on track, and they were the “hot” track tires in mid 2000s and they’re nowhere near what today’s streetable track tires like the Bridgestone RE71R, Hankook RS4, or even BFG Rivals. Compared to track tires from about 10-15 years ago, the MPS4s are comparable in lateral grip. They’re not track tires, but they pull times SIMILAR to last generation r-comps. The MPSSes are comparable to r-comps of 2 generations ago, the early RA1 and Victoracers. Some of today’s “street” tires are about as grippy as the latest r-comps. He’ll I ran Federal 555RSR-Rs at Laguna Seca, and those are my “street” tires and I set a personal fast lap on those $75/tire “economy” tires. |

All I know is that BMW set out to build a Boxster competitor and then decided to not offer MT. What a joke! I'll keep driving my e85 z4 with a stick.

At least this thing is properly quick given there will be no Z4M. Very impressive track performance for a road-going luxury roadster!

I guess like any business case it'll depend on demand. If the Z4 M40i sells like hot cakes and people are waving money wanting more then who knows. If it sells like a niche product, and no one buys it, there's no money to be made in speccing an M version - I suspect that's why the i8 didn't get any other power levels. Presumably also Toyota and BMW could in future agree to share convertible / coupe bodies if the demand is there for Z4 and Supra reciprocally.

I imagine that's going to be at least a 450 hp car...add in the beefed suspension and brakes and I may be buying my first Toyota!
