Exterior body assembly begins
Dealer gave us 8/21st as the production date shortly after we ordered. Today the status changed to EXTERIOR BODY ASSEMBLY BEGINS I guess we will get her a month earlier than expected Does anybody know how long it usually takes from now until delivery at the Performance Center in SC ? So glad I found this forum - extremely helpful so far. Can't wait |

was so excited to possibly get her earlier - today I received this email from my dealership
I don't want to put a damper on your expectations but we just delivered a new BMW M4 to a customer on Monday. This car was ordered last year and actually completed production in November but we didn't receive it at the dealership until last week! No explanation. Tracking would show that it took five months to get from the factory to Bremerhaven. That's all we had to go on. No repair, no damage. Just delay. WTF ?? |

There are several threads of folks providing the details of builds and delivery timelines on this forum, but here was mine from last year. With the pandemic and supply chain issues your timeline may differ. Either way there are some great tools for tracking progress, including tracking your car’s voyage across the ocean to South Carolina. Enjoy this part of the journey and research all of the little add-on’s you may want to purchase like a glass windscreen and OEM rubber floor matts. You are going to love the car! You are also going to have a blast picking the car up at the Performance Center. It’s a awesome experience for you and a guest. I don’t know how far a drive you have from the performance center to home, but if you planning on having PPF applied you may want to put a protective coating on the front of the car to avoid any unnecessary rock chips from the trip. Here is what I did to mine when I picked it up. That’s painters tape from Amazon. It was a little bit of a hassle but did the job.
3/18 - Negotiation complete and deposit placed at dealership. Impatiently waiting on a build allocation. 3/25 - Build allocation assigned. Order Received and tracking in MyBMW. I was told I had a build slot for week 18 (first week in May). 4/16 - Production Begins - I was shocked to see the build started 3 weeks early 4/22 - Exterior assembly begins 4/23 - In Paint Booth 4/26 - Entering Assembly Line 4/27 - Quality Check 4/27 - Awaiting Carrier Assignment 5/4 - Dispatched from Factory 5/5 - At the Port 5/10 - In Transit 5/30 - Estimated arrival at Port Charleston 6/1 - Actual arrival at Port Charleston 6/15 - Car Purchase 6/29 - Delivered - Freaking Amazing! 3 months and 12 days or 104 days deposit to pickup at the Spartanburg, SC PDC |

Mine was very similar in days for each step as Kwajtrader. I ordered it on Apr 22 and took delivery last Friday July 8th. 11 weeks exactly. I used the BMW my garage tracking until it went to the port. Once it was on the vessel I used https://shipfix.com to track it until it reached Baltimore.

I ordered a 540 for my mother. It was produced at the plan in Graz by magna steyr … same as z4. Production date: 6/14/22 Departed Bremerhaven: 7/11/22 Expected Delivery NJ dealer: 1st week August Add 1 month approx for PDC delivery. Also be sure you are flexible. They will give you a limited pdc appointment selection. Take it, if you don’t expect to wait much longer for the next, atleast from what I’m hearing these days. |

is https://mygarage.bmwusa.com/ really up to date ? She is sitting in the paint booth for almost a week now
another Z4 I am tracking ( just out of curiosity ) has been dispatched from the factory about 2 weeks ago with no changes. Makes me think that it is not updating for some reason ? |

Yeah last year, mine took 7 weeks from order submission to fulfillment, but I was definitely the fastest out of the bunch to get it.

That's what happens when you fuck up and forget to order the HK system.

Mine had a production date of July 10, loaded on the ship approximately July 28, currently in port in Belgium on the Hawaiian Highway, destined for Baltimore with arrival approximately August 10 or 11th. Hopefully I'll be able to take delivery by the end of August.
How long it sits at the port appears to be an issue of timing with the arrival of the ship. From my very limited experience and research, recently it seems there could be 2-4 weeks between the first vehicle at the port and the last vehicle at the port that get onto a given ship. |

When I was tracking mine, it seemed like the plant was doing a very poor job of updating the build progress. Since the assembly line is the next step, it is very possible that yours has been painted, but is waiting for some part that has yet to arrive and is needed to proceed to assembly.

Hawaiian vacation
I'll bet you're right. I checked the status of the Hawaiian Highway this morning and, after moored in Belgium for 5+ days (Grrrh!), it's finally at sea headed for Baltimore with scheduled arrival the night of August 12th.
