DO any of you have dashcams in your Z4??

Im looking into dashcams for my 2022 z4.

Does anyone know if its possible to hardwire a dashcam in the fuse box?

if so which dashcam do you recommend?

Any info on this would be great.

There are already articles in this forum all about this subject. Just do a search. Evidently there is a new gadget that plugs directly into your OBD socket that has the ability to have continuous power or off after a few minutes. Sounds better than piggybacking off the F24 fuse.

Here is how I did it for my Nextbase camera

I recently bought the Vantrue E1, sold on Amazon. It's a pretty decent small footprint dash cam with a WiFi to your Smart Phone feature. Vantrue also sells a wiring kit that piggybacks a fuse in the glovebox.

Rove R2-4K Dash Cam

I mount my camera before heading out on road trips. It suctions on nicely to left area (non-touch glass) of the Infotainment screen. A couple of pics:

The gps coordinates are accurate. There is a lot of road and not too many cars out in the western boonies.
I backed off the accelerator as it touched 150 mph but the gps didn’t register it.

By the way, I hope that you added some pressure to your tires when driving at these high speeds. The manual recommends 38 pounds (front & rear) when driving over 100 mph.

That was not a problem. The tires were very hot from the ambient temps. In fact, I was worried they were over-pressurized as I drove through 100 degrees temps on hot roads through Texas and New Mexico into Colorado. I think the tire temps were in the 120's and the pressure was in the low 40's.

This was a one-off top speed run. I was averaging mid 80's through the vast expanse of Wyoming with occasional runs into the 100's, but I'm not suicidal. That run was a bucket list accomplishment never to be done again. The road was empty and in decent condition, there was little to no vegetation where antelope could jump out from and I could see for miles up the road - pedal to the metal!

Were you using an app like Waze or a radar detector to warn you about any police cars ahead?

Tires heat up while driving, especially when driving fast, which makes air pressure increase due to the heat. If you're driving at 100+ mph, then the 38 psi recommendation listed in the owners manual is for *cold* inflation pressure.

Same for the max inflation pressure listed on your tire sidewall (as far as I know) - that's the max cold inflation pressure, it's actually fine if the pressure exceeds that number while you're driving.

The recommended pressure shown on the iDrive tire page is adjusted based on the current temperature (the tire pressure sensors also measure temperature). In iDrive you can go to the tire settings and choose whether you will be driving at over/under 100mph. Then, it'll always show you an accurate temperature-adjusted recommended tire pressure.

It goes without saying that any recommended tire pressure in the manual is a "cold" inflation pressure.

You've got to admit you teed that one up for me!

The only downside to my installation is that it requires mounting the camera upside down. The video is easily flipped but using the controls while the camera is mounted is a little tricky. Working really well for me and the short USB cable tucks neatly away so their aren't cables hanging everywhere.

Police cars? I guess if Andy was punishing Barney for something he might send him out in a patrol car, but the odds are that Barney would die of boredom before seeing anything worthy of pursuit.

If you haven't been out west you will be amazed at the lack of cars on the roads in Wyoming and Montana. In the old days, there was no speed limit in many places. The rule was "reasonable and prudent" so you might not get ticketed for driving a Lambo at 125 mph but you might get pulled over for driving a beat-up old clunker driving at 80 mph.

If I'm on the interstates on the east coast I'm cruising at 79 mph (really 76 as my speedometer overstates my speed by 3 mph) and really don't care about speed traps.

Absolutely!

Number 5 on my programmable buttons is tire pressure. I check it before heading out every time. Cold tire pressure of 32 psi before leaving the garage.

Thanks for the info. I would never set the iDrive tire option to over 100 mph as I rarely go that fast. That setting is probably for people taking their car to a track, right?

I was worried about how altitude would affect the tire pressure as I went from sea level to mile high over a couple of days. As it turned out, the heat of the tires was the main driver of the higher psi.

I purchased this electronic BMW tire gauge which only costs $22 and use it once a week before heading out.

What?! Mine too! Number 5!

On that note, I’ve noticed that the recommended tire pressure changes for both front and rear. I’m assuming based on current ambient temperature and tire temperature?
