What does $5k in dealer 'options' get you?
I asked for a lease quote on a 2023 Z4 M40i from a dealership a few hours away.
As part of the seemingly high $95k Cdn price tag, there was a nearly $5k 'option' package consisting of the following: --- BMW Carpet & All Weather Floor Mats Lender Fee Freight and PDI Administration Charge Air Conditioner Excise Tax Invisitrak Nitrogen | N2 Sask Tire Recycling Fee Fuel to Fill --- I asked why they were charging again for freight/pdi and the salesguy said the costs outlined on the bmw website don't cover what the real costs are and they need to add another $1000 for shipping. So I sent the salesguy another email asking why he was double charging for admin fee, AC tax, tire fee which were also priced out as separate charges (again) on the lease breakdown. I said floor mats don't cost $4000 and I don't recall any dealership EVER explicitly charging for fuel in the tank. And Nitrogen in the tires? Really? Don't know what Invisitrak is, don't care. If the car gets stolen, that is what insurance is for. Of course he said I could make an offer if I was serious, but at this time I'm just seeing what prices are. Rob |

So you started with a Z4, switched to an M850i convertible and you are now leaving the dark side and returning to us?

All of those are 100% fluff fees. The actual value of all of those is approximately $0 since they're either extremely minor things or things you're (as you said) already paying for.

When I was searching for my Z4, one dealer didn't even try to hide it with 'options'. Their window sticker include a $10k Additional Dealer Markup, but he offered that they could cut that to $5k.
I walked out and went to a different dealer.

Yeah, I found a dealer I like for service as well that's about a 45 minute drive for me. There's quite a few dealers closer to me, but when you find a good one IMO it's worth patronizing them.

I’m about to get my first service at 4k miles: when you say ‘in and out’, is that something like less than an hour?

My best car buying experience was at a BMW dealer. The salesman said there were a bunch of 'ad ons' I could get if I wanted but he suggested against it. My sale price was below MSRP. Everyone there was really great. Gave me super high trade in for my Supra.

A big part of the reason I like BMWs is due to the dealerships. There are two very good ones, neither is conveniently located. But, they are very professional and honest, prices are fair, service is excellent and they provide very nice loaners. Their showrooms are great with a fine selection of models to drool over. I believe both have been in business more than 60 years.

In all my car buying (mis)adventures, I have never seen a dealership charge for the first fillup.
I used to think my local dealership were a bunch of good guys, until they did some really questionable shit and completely washed their hands of it (because they can). Rob |

Gas around here is $5.29 a gallon for premium, which I’m guessing is on the expensive side. Z4 would have to have a 28 gallon fuel tank for it to be about $150. LOL at these guys…

Every single new car I've ever bought or leased (3x Audi, 1x VW) has come with a full tank of gas.
This is also true for every other make as far as I know. Charging you for the initial fill-up is straight-up scummy. |

My new Jeep, 12% off MSRP, came with a complementary full tank. Same operation also owns the BMW store so the “comped" gas is not limited just to premium cars.
