What’s the science behind EcoPro clutch engagement and disengagement being of worse value in fuel economy, and/or lugging the engine and/or impact of turbos and reducing fuel input?
It appears like the engine is MORE efficient in adaptive mode. That is, unless you use other eco pro functions like a/c reduction etc and you are going slightly downhill. (I tend to use eco pro to more advantage on downhill trending roads to coast.) But is there more efficiency with less fluctuation in throttle inputs and “clutch” disengagement / coasting especially with the turbos at play? |

If I am not mistaken Adaptive will put you in Sport mode if you press really hard on the accelerator pedal. |

I’ve not seen a difference - the throttle mapping may be different, but once you hit kick down (that additional ‘bump’ at the end of the throttle) it seems to be giving it everything.

Looking at my results, my Z4 was similar to 34% in all areas. The X5 was 34% in hours and CO2, but 14% in fuel consumption.
That indicates to me that they're grouping results in a normal distribution by 1 sigma groups. Zero to 1 sigma is 34% of the distribution. 1 to 2 sigma is 14%. 2 to 3 sigma is 2 %. The only problem is you don't know whether you're on the high or low side of the mean.

So it looks like everyone is either 34% or 14% on whatever BMW makes up. Also looks like 40.1MPG is a top standard, LOL. Window dressing, apparently

January 2024 is up
Every month I’m in the 30-31mpg range. My most common modes are Adaptive/Comfort followed by Sport Individual, Sports Plus and very very rarely Eco Pro. |
