What’s the science behind EcoPro clutch engagement and disengagement being of worse value in fuel economy, and/or lugging the engine and/or impact of turbos and reducing fuel input?

It appears like the engine is MORE efficient in adaptive mode. That is, unless you use other eco pro functions like a/c reduction etc and you are going slightly downhill. (I tend to use eco pro to more advantage on downhill trending roads to coast.) But is there more efficiency with less fluctuation in throttle inputs and “clutch” disengagement / coasting especially with the turbos at play?

Eco Pro around town is a slug, makes the car feel like a 2 cylinder. Felt better at highway speeds.

Do you think acceleration is stronger in Adaptive mode vs Comfort?

Definitely!

If I am not mistaken Adaptive will put you in Sport mode if you press really hard on the accelerator pedal.

Liking that, might have to use Adaptive as my go to instead of comfort.
Shame that BMW did away with it on newer Z4’s

Since I started using Adaptive some months ago comfort has never had a look in.

I’ve not seen a difference - the throttle mapping may be different, but once you hit kick down (that additional ‘bump’ at the end of the throttle) it seems to be giving it everything.

That's good 14%. My average was 27.4 mpg and is similar to 34%. My most efficient was 33.2 mpg and similar to 34%.

Looking at my results, my Z4 was similar to 34% in all areas. The X5 was 34% in hours and CO2, but 14% in fuel consumption.

That indicates to me that they're grouping results in a normal distribution by 1 sigma groups. Zero to 1 sigma is 34% of the distribution. 1 to 2 sigma is 14%. 2 to 3 sigma is 2 %. The only problem is you don't know whether you're on the high or low side of the mean.

So it looks like everyone is either 34% or 14% on whatever BMW makes up. Also looks like 40.1MPG is a top standard, LOL. Window dressing, apparently

. . . and it appears to be pretty optimistic. The summary claims my average for November was 30.9 MPG while my actual calculated average was only 28.07 MPG.

FWIW, my average fuel economy (actual calculated) since taking delivery 15 months ago, and over 6300+ miles is 28.69 MPG.

January 2024 is up

Every month I’m in the 30-31mpg range.

My most common modes are Adaptive/Comfort followed by Sport Individual, Sports Plus and very very rarely Eco Pro.
