M40i Headlight Cleaning

While waiting on delivery in a few weeks I have been browsing through the pdf manual and noticed that they say not to wipe dry the headlamp glass. Any idea why? I would have through that a microfiber cloth would be suitable as is recommended for the matte paint bodywork.

Without checking, I'm going to assume they headlamps are plastic, not glass. Some kinds of plastic scratch very easy even with a microfiber cloth.

Thanks Rob, that's probably why. But, if the headlamp cover is so easily scratched, how will it cope with road grit giving it a 'sandblasting'?

Don't drive on shitty roads or follow close behind other cars at high speeds. And if you don't mind spending a bit, paint protection film can give some peace of mind too.

BMW including Meguiars M688 coating so that should help. Re shitty roads, no choice sometimes I just sold my 2013 E89 and not a single paint chip after seven years, I just hope the matte paint on the new one will be as good.

I had Xpel Clear PPF installed on the headlights, and you cannot tell that anything is on it.

I'm thinking it would be OK to use the ultra soft, two ply, Charmin....especially when they look really shitty.
