Frozen Arctic Grey maintenance

I have a Z4 M40i in frozen arctic grey on order but have some concerns on the maintenance of the paintwork. BMW manual states no wax or polish but my dealer has included an Autoskinz treatment. I'm waiting for confirmation of the actual treatment offered but wondering if anyone else had had a protective coating applied and how it may affect the matte finish.

I applied one of the best nano ceramic coatings in the market, CQuartz UK 3.0 on our X5 based on real world comparison tests. Love it, should last for years. Double coated those areas looking forward - front of mirrors, hood, grill, headlights, etc. Very easy to apply and buff after letting it set up for 30 seconds to say....1 minute. Accidentally smeared a couple of glass areas. Is impossible to get off without polishing it off. Cost to hire a thorough detail prep (clay, iron removal, etc.) and materials - less than $200 including a six pack of cold ones.

I bought a Z4 M40i in Frozen Arctic Grey in June.
Immediately after driving it off the lot, I had a full PPF wrap done in Xpel Stealth. It cost $7800 but now I have so much peace of mind about keeping the paint looking good.

Unfortunately I had to get a new windshield 2 weeks ago (different story) and curbed a rear wheel yesterday being careless.

I can't win.

I did the Stealth wrap also. Paid about the same with ceramic coating as well. Really a peace of mind.

Given the limited choices available here in Thailand it comes down to either Ceramic Pro or Meguiar's Deep Crystal Coating M688. Leaning towards Meguiar's as they have done two Frozen Arctic Grey M40i's already.

I had mine coated with UNCR 1.5 Pro Elite...
It came up fantastic! The water beads off the car amazing and it doesn't seem to hold as much dirt as usual. Really happy with it

Hi! I love the Frozen Grey, but my issue is that I live in a cold climate (Chicago). If you can't put this car through a car wash, how are people keeping it clean in the winter? I don't have a heated garage with a drain, so washing it outside at my house is not a solution.

Also, what is the best way to protect the paint without spending $8K on a protective film?

Thanks!

There are lots of waterless car washes folks swear by for guys like you. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=waterless...dc&ref=a9_sc_1

This is where I buy my goodies. Call them up for some honest advice. I love Carpro CQuartz 3.0 UK ceramic coating. Applied it to my X19. Goes on super tough and you'll get the same quality and durability as the shop that's ripping you off for an app that costs $2,000.

Hardest part is the prep, cleaning.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder how those products would work when I have an inch of dried up slush/salt/dirt from highway driving in the winter though.

Trust me, that question has been posed before. Up to you to do the research on Amazon.

I believe you are supposed to use matt paint specific coating or protection. There are ceramic coatings made for them

With the Xpel stealth wrap over the Frozen Arctic Grey, I find myself using just water and a Micro-fiber cloth. Remember, the wrap can take abuse and will just "heal" itself in the sun. So, I don't have to worry about scratches.

If its real dirty, I use soap and warm water with a microfiber cloth to get hard stuff off and another, clean cloth to dry. With the wrap, I never have to touch the actual paint. Just the wrap, which has self-healing properties.

This method works for me just fine, and remember, the paint on this vehicle can withstand driving thru rainstorms with no ill effects. If we had to baby it like some people think, BMW would recommend keeping it in a garage and never driving it.

I live in New York. Just buy Dr Beasleys matte paint care. Puts a Hydrophobic layer on your car.
