I have an unusual request

I am interested in buying a M40i, but there are not any close to where I live, so I have to look online. This presents a problem for me. My wife and I would use the car for pleasure and some trips. We have a small dog that always rides with us. So, I'd like to know if there is any room between or behind the seats for a small dog pillow. We are both short (under 5' 8"), so the seats would not be all the way back and the dog weighs 9 lbs.

If anyone could tell if there is room it would be great!
Thanks.

Zero room behind or in between for a small dog.

Yeah, I don't think this will work out for you. Maybe look at the M440i convertible? It has a back seat so would be more practical for your use case.

While I haven't tried it, I'm pretty sure my dog travel bed for our 10lb Yorkie would fit behind my wife's seat with room to spare. The Z4 has so much more room than my Jaguar F type did....

Unless the OP's wife is under 5 feet tall there is not enough room.

For a BMW, the M440i convertible would definitely be the best solution.

My puppies are in the hundred pound class so no for me. That said based on where my wife 5'2" & I 5'10" normally have our seats there is not adequate space for a dog of any size.

Don't think they can be moved up enough to accommodate an animal & 2 humans. Think even a driver & a small dog would be hard on the dog. Thing is the package shelf is too narrow for a dog & the passenger seat full forward does not expose enough floor for a dog to lay on. That means you would have to prop up a dog box behind the passenger seat which will then not fit a passenger.

Thanks for the replies. I just got the news the dog may have cancer about an hour ago. So, I guess I'll have to wait and see what's next.

i don't own a dog so I'm not sure how big a 9lbs dog is, but below a picture of the seats and the storage space behind them with one seat in a normal position .

maybe on the back of the armrest, or if you open the ski hatch it could partially fit in there and partially outside

So sorry to hear about this. We have a little 9 pound 15 year old Toy Schnauzer. We take her on rides a lot and on vacation with us. I should be getting my Z4 soon, and can always let you know how things work with her. We are not able to have human kids, so our dogs are our kids. I hope everything works out well for you and your little baby.

Thanks so much for the picture. That hatch just might work. She's just a little dachshund. When I'm watch TV, she sits on my chest under my chin, so she doesn't need a lot of space. I could put a triangle piece of 1/4" plywood over the back half of the armrest and throw a couple blankets over it and she would be perfectly happy. Dachshunds like to burrow and like dark places, so she would love that hatch opening.

I would appreciate that. It appears that they can treat her, but we will know more in another week or two. The bill is going to be impressive... so far $4k and counting.

I know to each their own. Everyone has different motivations and different understandings.

We had to put down two of our pets in the same year. Our dog was 11 and she started having seizures, suspected brain tumor. The other was a 19 year old cat who had alot of health issues and could not breathe one day. I genuinely think she got COVID.

We had to weigh the pros with the cons. We can spend thousands on treatment to get how much time and at what quality of life? 14 is a longtime for a pup to live. We loved our pup and kitty so much. I've got another 18 year old cat and i'm dreading the day that decision comes already.

Our 10 lb Yorkie fits perfectly on the center console in a doggy seat the wife found on Amazon.
