Ideas for Hot Buttons other than Radio

Looking for ideas for those 8 programmable buttons in the place of the radio on my 2023 Z4 M40i. On my old 2010 Z4 I had:

1 - Selects random play
2 - Guidance to home
3 - Guidance to work
4 - Cancel Guidance
5 - Split / Full Screen
6 - Day / Night Screen

Any suggestions?

I have the sport displays on one of them, also. Tire pressures one gets most use.

This is great. I had no idea you could use them for other things than just the radio. Do you have to use Bimmercode or is it built into idrive?

It’s built in. Just go to whatever item you want in iDrive. For example, if you want to add interior lighting, go to car settings and scroll over to the interior lighting settings. Don’t go into it, but just highlight it by scrolling over it. Then hold down whatever # you want to program it to and you’ll get a beep for confirmation that’s it’s saved.

Also, assuming most people know this but if you just lightly put your finger on those 1-8 buttons (without pressing) it will tell you at the top of the iDrive screen what is programmed to each button.

That’s odd. I haven’t done it in awhile, but I believe I did it under the Apps menu in iDrive, and just highlighted the CarPlay selection from there.

That just means that what you highlighted on the iDrive screen wasn't able to be executed. For example if you go into CarPlay and try to save it to a button it won't work, but if you simply highlight the CarPlay iDrive touch point and then press to save it to a button, it should work.

This is exactly right, I had the same problem (going into the desired screen, then trying to save). Essentially you are mimicking the 'button press' to access said function.

Phone numbers handy, especially house gates = easy HomeLink type entry 🙌🏻

Ahh got it. I’ll try that way instead. Thanks

Is the Spotify APP on the BMW app screen?

The above is exactly why I passed on a new idrive 8 based BMW. The 1-8 buttons so easily programmed are just the pinnacle of design IMHO. The new system is just trash in comparison.

Long live idrive 7 and real buttons

Agreed 100%. My wife got an X3 over the new X1 because of this, even though the X3 was a little bigger than she wanted.
