Seatbelt sliding up into neck

My absolute #1 pet peeve about my new Z4 is the seatbelt. I really hate how the shoulder strap keeps sliding up on to my lower neck area. I keep adjusting it multiple times, but it always slides up again. It's supposed to be across your shoulder, not your neck! I think the issue is the design of the belt guide on the seat where it allows the belt to position over the seat shoulder and beside the headrest.

Am I the only one annoyed by this design?

I have the same problem. Starts cutting into my neck after about 5 minutes. I'm going to try a car seat belt adjuster from Amazon.

Seat belt extender

Just bought one of these, it is adjustable in length. Looks perfect and does fit. Unfortunately as we can’t go out at present my wife hasn’t tried it yet but I’m sure it will sort out the shoulder location problem. We had a plastic clip style on the Spider but wasn’t very good.

Annoys me as well, not made for tall people. I get used to it after driving it after a couple days but if I drove another car for a while and go back in this Z4 it bothers me. The shoulder belt needs to be out from the seat further..

Not a good plan. You want the seatbelt to be as low on your hips as you can get it.

With 5 or 6 point race harness the crotch belt(s) hold the lap belt down low when you tighten the shoulder belts.

I did a quick search and found this is an issue that has been around since previous generations of the Z4 and maybe even Z3. One solution is to raise the seat. I'm 6ft and had my seat at the lowest setting. Raising it does seem to help.

My wife isn’t too sure about wearing a crotch belt as it would ruffle her dress and as I don’t intend racing this car can’t see me going in that direction. Thanks for the suggestion though

This annoyed me a lot as well. My work around for longer drive to take the seat belt out of the seat belt guide and slide it to the side of the seat. This make it sit across my shoulder much better.

Not suggesting you do, I only have a set in the COBRA. 5 point was an example of how to properly place the lap belt. Am suggesting you wear the 3 point harness as low on your hips as you can like a 5 point harness would naturally place it.

Better across bone than across just muscle or fat like the extender places it

SeatBelt Extender add

3 point safety alert

That said everyone is entitled to make their own choices.

I had this issue as well.
I found that if I wore a t shirt, it was an issue.
If I wore a shirt with a proper collar, the issue was less pronounced.

So dress up a little, and the problem goes away...that is what BMW was going for - prim and proper drivers.

Seatbelt on neck

This is my main complaint as well. I didn't notice it on my test drive and I didn't have an issue with my previous M240i convertible.

Wonder if there is something we can do with that guide that's clipped to the seat to lower the belt across our shoulder?
