Awful hood line in the middle of nowhere!

Too much black unused space around the center display. I don’t like this ‘Mercedesfication’ of trying to ‘join’ the two displays.

Only a mother could love that grill.......looks way too busy for my likings.
I see Kia stinger/Mercedes SL500 stylings mixed with a couple dashes of civic type r edginess.
Two thumbs down
Performance looks impressive though on the positive:
Sh!t.....bmw you really need to loose that hood line and add real exhaust tips

There are just so many different styling elements! This is really UN-BMW-like.

I'm not a fan. It is the least pleasing exterior Z design since the start of the Z series. This car must be geared toward Asian markets as this would be a better Lexus design than BMW. That being said, the interior is sweet. Hopefully the interior design cues are shared with the rear of the lineup in future models.

The front has absolutely no flow, lines going to no where and the headlights look like the fiat spider. It's like they gave up. Wonder if Toyota got to design the front. The lines remind me of the awful current gen Lexus's.

Waste of a BMW. Hopefully the handling offsets the looks. :

Toyota has nothing to do with the design 🙄 this is all bmw, yeah, put the blame on someone else....

Asian markets, luxury segment, prefer European makes, makes absolutely no sense with Lexus design.....

Goes both ways, both “fan bases” are ignorant when it comes to this, do some research and you’ll be surprised with both cars 😉

I don't hate it, but I was kind of expecting more. I'm a former Z4 owner, and I've been waiting decades for BMW to finally make a great Z car, and they ALWAYS manage to miss the mark somehow. I thought this would be the one, but I'm not feeling it yet.

Lots of crazy lines everywhere. Lots of derived designs. Awkward proportions (is this because of the shared platform?) I'm hoping this car brings brilliant performance/handling, otherwise I think I'm ready to make the jump the Porsche.

Im sorry, you cannot co-develop a chasis and vehicle and neither company have a say so in the design of the body. It has to marry to the chassis, things have to line up like strut mounts, engine mounts, body mounts, spring mounts etc etc. Those things absolutely dictate the design of the vehicle. Both companies would have to co develop the design cues side by side to make sure every piece that is shared between the Supra and Z4.

Interior has every design cue that says its BMW. the exterior? thats Asian, just look at Lexus (Toyota) and Kia!!

Agree, I mean, it's 100% consistent with every other BMW coming out right now. By all accounts, BMW did all the engineering work and designed the Z4 and Toyota is basically restyling it as a coupe and calling it the Supra.

It can be swapped out I am sure... and I bet there is one in the M performance parts catalog..

that's like saying.. oh no. the wheels aren't a style I like.. deal breaker..
I understand what you are saying don't get me wrong but to pay for a car costs $70k BMW should make the steering wheel in the correct way how fans wish for.

I am sorry but I don't see the obvious deficiency you refer to. can you describe the " correct way" you feel it should be made?

Ha I just feel like they should put M steering wheel as standard also for the X3 and X4 M40i too.

What engine is in this? I see dual mid-pipes to the muffler.

Bro I've BEEN ready to make the jump. For me it's just a matter of when not if.

BMW still makes a great car here and there but Porsche remains more committed to driving dynamics.

Why doesn't this roadster have shift gates hidden underneath a missing shift boot?

Oh wait... Wait, I thought BMW said this is going to be a true roadster?

That's the same wheel that has NOT been appearing on the X3M40i deliveries am I correct?

Seems pretty clear they are having a shortage of them ... and god forbid they put one on this show model and get fans like us excited and then don't bring it to market with it ..

The M4’s engine, the S55, has seen its final application in the M2 Competition (except for the upcoming limited CS/CSL model) and will be discontinued after the current generation M4 and M2 exit production.

However, the X3/X4 M’s engine, the S58, will make even more power and would be perfect for a Z4 M. Unfortunately, as far as we know right now, BMW has no plans to offer one. It could change, but it is not necessarily likely.

It is the B58TU. Assuming this is a US spec model, it is a B58B30O1. If it is instead a Euro spec model, it is a B58B30M1.
