Everybody surprised raise their hands right now!!

Yeah, no news today...

In other news, I was cool at being the dd for tonight for my bestie, until I saw him dancing (bad,ly, and in an empty bar, so really bad). Im cool even with him being down. Hell, I could legally (I could've but wouldnt have ) drive in most states.

But as of now, I am inhaling alcohol fast and taxi is out ride. Fucking karaoke.

(I never drive if I've drank more than a half a beer anywhere.)

Edit. I managed to get a whole beer in before I remembered I had a fucking awful morning ahead. I can still hear the karaoke in my head, and I'm pretty sure a part of me died last night, or I hope died, but Fml I hate Celine Dion. The bloody song is stuck in my head now.

Awhile back,(Bush) they were talking about a guest worker program, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know how it would be managed, but I like the idea if it can be managed.

A great approach, but in the eyes of some of the most ardent trump supporters that would be treasonous. They want to expel everyone then go through a process of letting them back in. Great in theory but plenty of businesses will go bankrupt in the mean time (not to mention the economy tanking)

Simple minded is the best way to describe it. Completely devoid of the understanding of how intrinsically tied together everything is. Successful leadership in this country is about having the nuance of a surgeon. You cut too deep, not precisely enough and you tear into the sinewy tissue of the very fiber of this country.

It's too complicated for the typical ideologue. They want simple blunt answers for simple black and white problems.

I think you, and those who think like you, grossly overestimate the effect 3% of the population have on the country's economy (percentage based on the highly cited figure of 11M assumed illegals currently in the U.S.).

Well... Rather than exploiting these workers with low wages, and taxpayers picking up the tab for their social services (estimated at $25.4B/yr - or $2300+ per CA family), maybe the farmers should hire citizens, and pay them more?

CA schools spend something like 57% of their budget educating the children of illegals, and the next-highest line item is incarceration and policing. Maybe tomatoes should cost more?

Most people would likely rather pay more for produce, and less in taxes.

Hire citizens and pay them more? Honorable idea, lets play it out.

How much would it cost to get a citizen to come pick fruits in the field? (silly idea, you will never get "citizens" to leave the cities to go work 14 hours a day in the fields, unless you have grander social schemes up your sleeve?)

How much more wdeos that increase the cost of the farmers workforce?

How much would that raise the cost of the produce?

How much produce would consumers buy at these raised prices?

How would spending more on produce effect their ability to spend money elsewhere? (someone is going to lose)

How would these farmers address the reduced demand? - laying people off, selling equipment, closing down?

how would this downsizing effect the rural areas which have been built around these farms? Loss of jobs, revenue?

how does an increase in costs of consumer staples impact inflation?

Historically, how has increased costs for staples impacted the economy? (hint: search for Micro-economics of food prices)

Taxes are regressive, so even if you lower taxes the benefit will go disproportionately to higher income earners. Lower income families, the ones who already pay the lowest amount of tax will be disproportionately impacted by increase prices in basic staples and inflation. Richer get richer, poorer get poorer, the economy stalls as the velocity of money slows down, and this offsets any tax savings.

How this is a recipe for success I don't know.

I wouldn't because if you think our tax rates would magically be reduced in this instance, I have an amazing ski cabin in Kansas you might be interested in.

Between that story and this one, http://www.vox.com/science-and-healt...bamacare-trump it's always amusing how people actively vote against their own self interests.

I never understood the "exploiting these workers", farmer offers them a job and they take it, they are welcome to move along or go back home. Same with Nike paying $2 a day in Bangladesh.

I do agree that if we were really interested in stopping illegals it would make the most sense to go after the people that employ them. No jobs would stop the problem but we aren't willing to go after the business owner as he votes and is a good American that pays his taxes.

Also wonder about your numbers and where they come from. "CA schools spend something like 57% of their budget educating the children of illegals" so the other other 43% goes to education for non illegals, roads, police, jails, fire, state government, state medical care, etc? I am interested in seeing where this number came from.

Illegals do pay some taxes, mostly sales and property taxes (as a previous apartment owner I can tell you the tenants are paying the taxes indirectly) and having a legal, minimum wage job won't change the total much as people making minimum wage have minimal taxes taken out.

That was a joke. Besides the new ambassador of Austria, he has not gotten one single thing right, the attitudes towards other humans have gone to shit, market is reacting to twitter for fucks sake and Putin is smiling all the time these days.

The only thing, besides the ambassador, I will give Trump credit for is that people will probably haul their arses to vote everywhere after this to avoid being the next trumpistan.

Macroeconomically-speaking, research indicates completely valid arguments could be made for either case. You know which one I'm on board with.
