insurance

finally our Z4 arrived in the US and at the PDC. We are scheduled for pick-up on 3/27

Searched the internet for insurance and got an acceptable quote from Progressive. After I wanted to purchase it, the quote doubled to over $1000

System claims I had an accident in June 2021 - I definitely never had one and Progressive agent is not able/willing to help. They can't tell me anything about it.

Does anybody have an idea which insurance company I can try or what else to do ?

Thanks

Maybe find an insurance broker instead of getting quotes from companies directly. My car dealership network had an in-house broker and they came through for me; my premium ended up being much less for my Z4 than it was on my 3 series, and I got better coverage. (The broker doesn't operate in VA or I'd recommend them to you.)

Just be very careful if you are leasing as BMWFS requires OEM parts be used in the event of an accident involving one of their cars and most 'mainstream' insurance companies (SF, ALL, Geico, Prog, etc) do not use OEM parts if you are at fault. So the difference may have to come out of your pocket....and it can add up quickly.

Thanks for the update. We are not planning to lease - will be paying cash

If you are a veteran, I would recommend USAA or Navy FCU. Aside from that, not well read on All-State or others. I got Progressive for the bike but USAA partnered with them to cover bikes and my rate is cheap.

Is this just for leasing or is it the same for financing with BMWFS when you are buying the car?

Assume it would just be leasing, as you'll at some point turn the car back in so they want it OEM condition.

not a veteran

I have Progressive for my bike as well and the rate is pretty good. I have The Hartford for my other cars but they won't let me insure my Z4 because its going to be titled to an LLC

Can’t you check this accident report on Carfax and see what is listed for your VIN number?

Contact, Progressive and ask for a supervisor. You are entitled to a straight answer.

They should be able to tell you the VIN number of the vehicle involved that allegedly you were driving.

Are you dealing with an independent insurance agent who is giving you this information or directly with Progressive?

Honestly, if they are being this difficult just to get the quote and resolve the issue, I'm not sure I'd want to deal with them if you actually had a claim to file or had an accident.

I have Progressive for both of my cars and used an independent agent to write my policies. Perhaps ZVier should contact an agent in VA?

Yeah, I feel like the agent is a bit easier as well. Have State Farm and I do like being able to call someone and quickly get an answer to a question.

Which actually as a side note, I called them to see what the difference in my rates would be going from my 2021 M340i to the Z4, assuming it would go up a decent amount. Somehow it is going down $10/month. Insurance makes no sense

I’m with State Farm. But I have everything through them: house, vehicles, liability, etc. have had one claim in over 10 years, and that was a couple of years ago (backed a trailer into my own car). The z4 is cheaper than the suv! Had to ask them twice to make sure it was correct - it’s just over $50 a month, but I’m sure it’d be a lot more if it was the only policy.

Yeah, we’re in the same boat in that we have everything through them. I am a little bias, as my father-in-law just retired as a State Farm agent for 50 years a few years back
