Just checked with Genius and my dealer. No stop sale on my G29. Just waiting on it to finish processing at the port and get on the truck for PCD.

Nope. Decided against it based on previous bad experience with wireless charging in other vehicles.
Guess I chose wisely

It's due to the system won't know when you remove your digital key or phone from the tray. And this does not meet Federal requirement (I don't know how tho).

On Feb 17, the status is changed from delivery stop to Non-Compliance recall.

And BMW said it would have another updates within 2 weeks of that date.

It affects all 8 series (including M8), 2 series (including M2) and Z4 produced between Jun 29, 2022 and Feb 16, 2023 with wireless charging feature.

Hope this helps people who are waiting their car like me.

It doesn't mean much for us who is waiting for the car. It basically gives dealers a better idea on what's going on with the car, basically due to compliance issue, you cannot sell it. In stead of general stop sale.

As of your previous comment, the problem is it's not just the `key card` that come with the car, it's also that your phone can be used as a digital key.

But I agree that even so, they can just disable it on the car for now. (maybe even just as simple as disabling it temporarily would take them a month)

If anyone wonder how is wireless charging related to digital key as that's something to unlock/lock your car. watch this
. basically, when you place your digital key on the wireless charging tray, it someone recognize it and let you start the car.

In turn, after you remove it from the tray, and it still thinks it's there, then you can start the car without the key in place (this is my assumption of the problem).

As mentioned by 348SStb earlier " “The wireless charging tray will not recognize the digital key removal. As a result, some functions like window sunroof, and convertible top operation could remain active."

There are likely other issues affected because these vehicles effectively believe "the key is still in the ignition".

My Zed has a production date of June 29, 2022 so I'll probably be getting a recall notice. Though I don't use the key card, I do have the digital key loaded and configured on my iPhone. FWIW, since taking delivery in August, I haven't noticed anything unusual despite always having my iPhone atop the wireless charger. However, now that I think back, usually when I place my phone on the charger, the phone lights up acknowledging the BMW digital key but there have been a few times that it didn't. I didn't think much of it because I always carry my key fob with me but...???

Well, I'm glad I just learned this whole stop sale thing is connected to an item that BMW has valued at $80.00.

Have a look at this Window Sticker -- I do not know production date of this vehicle (and it doesn't have the wireless charging tray) -- but it does indicate "Deletion of BMW Digital Key."

[Link will not function after that car is sold.]

Wouldn't it be nice if BMW could simply send a new MSRP sheet and accompanying written instructions to dealers with affected cars DELETING the BMW Digital Key?

Yes but that would almost certainly open a whole new can of worms.

It's clearly a software issue. Developing a fix shouldn't take long at all. Applying the fix to all the cars sitting around, now that could take a while (assuming it works like the iDrive software updates...)

I have an early 2022 model with a lower MSRP. I didn't have the wireless charging tray but the "Deletion of BMW Digital Key" is listed and there wasn't an $80 credit given.

I wonder why they gave the $80 credit on the late 2022 models?

That's weird. They were giving credit for all sorts of things a while back. Digital Key deletion, lumbar support. I even had an M440i Grand Coupe as a loaner that had manual seats!

Isn't the Digital Key tied to the charging tray? If so, and you didn't order the tray, then that may be why you didn't get the credit. I ordered my Z4 when there were lots of parts shortages (ordered 7/21, delivered 12/21) and I knew when I the order was placed that they had stopped putting in the charging tray. My window sticker doesn't say anything about deleting the charging tray, but does have "Deletion of BMW digital Key" and in the cost line says "Included". I didn't get the digital card and my phone can't be used as a digital key.

You don't need the charging tray for the digital key. My wife has a two-week old X3 that has the key but not the charger.

Looks like my missing digital key may also be a result of the parts shortage.

It was at one point, at least during mid-2022. Back in July-August time-frame when I was using BMW's online configuration tool, you had to select the wireless charging in order to get the digital key. Otherwise, you got a digital key delete line item with a small credit.

I don't understand why this is an issue? I think you can do the same with the regular key. Start the car keep the key in your pocket and then have someone else drive off. (but you do get a warning on the screen)

A while back there was a discussion in one of the Z4 facebook groups that you can leave your digital key inside and lock the car with your regular key without getting a warning that your key is still inside the car.

To me that's a more problematic issue, since anyone noticing the digital key could just smash your window and drive off.
