Sounds Settings for HK Stereo

What are you guys using for the sound settings for your HK system? Any tweaks to the equalizer or anything?

I have increased both the bass and treble. The next time I am in my car I will take a picture of the HK settings.

Also I have ripped many of my old CD's to my iPhone and they were transferred in ALAC (lossless audio). I believe that lossless audio files sound better when used in a loud setting.

I don't have a Z4 (yet :) but I did pretty much the same thing on my H/K X7. +2-3 notches on treble, +1-2 on bass. That made it sound much better to my ears, your preferences may vary. No need to mess around in the full equalizer unless you know what you're doing (I don't lol).

If you want to play a little with Bimmercode you can activate the Bowers & Wilkins spacial settings (theater, stadium, studio etc)

Some easy to get variations.

I’m far from an audiophile so what have you guys done with the equalizer?

Here are the pictures of my HK settings, make sure you have checked the box for Logic 7 Surround.

I definitely rocked as I was playing Bruce Springsteen this afternoon!

Aside from pushing the treble and bass I did move the Fader a little to the right.

You should play around with the settings until you find a sweet spot to your liking. By the way, I don't believe that I ever touched the equalizer.

The default on the equalizer is all dead center. I think as you adjust bass/treble it also moves that, with the option to then tweak it further. My wife get her X3 last week with HK, and that was how it was defaulted to anyway.

Most likely you are correct as I never did anything additional to the equalizer.

I've just deactivated the B&W coding on mine this week.
I switched between settings and noticed that I got different sound dependant on the order I switched them Some sounded better than stock but others didn't sound right.
If I selected them in a different order, they sounded completely different. Very odd! I decided the settings were not suited to the HK amp set-up after all and that it was better as it left the factory, so reverted to normal HK set-up again.

That makes sense. The option is available because the ID7 is used in other models that actually have the B&W speakers. Logic would suggest the B&W coding is tuned to those speakers rather than the HK.

However, I do like the "On Stage" profile. I'll run it for a while and then switch back, comparing the "Logic 7 Surround" to it.

I left all the HK settings at default and it sounds great to me.

It depends on where the vocals are, I like to adjust the equalizer based on that... for example, if it's something like Radiohead I do a little gradual increase favoring the right center. If it's something like Pearl Jam, do a gradual increase to the left of center. I tend to decrease slightly the second to the far left and second to the far right to reduce any possible dissonance. I increase bass most of the time but not excessively, and treble (far right) a little but not as much as the bass. I think less is more in terms of not having dramatic step functions.
