Z3/Z4 Annual Mountain Drive Oct 12-15

Anybody going to the annual Z3/Z4 drive in a couple of weeks? The dates are Oct 12 - 15 and the home base is the Creekside Lodge in Maggie Valley, NC.

This is my first year attending and I'm really looking forward to it.

There are details on the calendar at Atlantaz3.com. They are expecting 55+ Zs in attendance. If you are interested, ping Russ@ that url.

Probably get some great unicorn, scenic location and parking lot pics for the respective threads!!

Not sure if there are still rooms/slots available but with so many of us in the SE, figured i'd put it out there. We are doing an air bnb just down the street. If you are going, DM me and we'll catch up on site.

Was up in that area a couple weeks ago for vaca, Biltmore/Gatlinburg. Lots of great roads, wish I had the Z4 at that time. Scenery should be spectacular with the fall colors.

The drives in that area arw always fun. Did them in my Z3 many years ago. Maybe some time in the future.

This will be our fourth year in a row for my wife and I. It’s a great time with a nice group of folks. Lots of twisty driving with the top down through the mountains and the weather usually cooperates. Good fun, conversation and food. I think they have about 50 cars coming this year. You’ll need an FRS radio and if you have a copilot make sure you bring some Dramamine.

LOL, FRS radios! Haven’t seen mine in years! We used them all the time when we made our Homecoming convoy trips 20 years ago.

I know it seems a little archaic but they work well for keeping everyone together on some pretty complex drives and they help in avoiding hazards (not to mention the awesome random color commentary).

I completely agree. My previous two car clubs always used them for club runs. The banter was entertaining and they were quite useful for providing guidance and warnings (easy to miss turns, cyclists, potholes, roadkill, etc.) on lesser known routes.

It’s still saying partly cloudy during the weekend, which could make for some nice foggy scenery up in the mountains. We’re heading up after lunch because they asked folks to delay checkin at the lodge. I’ll see you tomorrow at the 8:15am drivers meeting.

Went for a drive yesterday up Neels gap - saw 5 corvettes running up and down the mountain, but not much traffic otherwise. The leaves are beginning to change. We might see you as we run up to Asheville this weekend. Have a blast and share your pictures with us.
