New Info on the Z4 Manual

Got a call from my AD today. The Manual car will be a MY25 only car not MY24. So this gives them time to get the new colors and options into the configurator. MY24 Z4 production will stop in Feb and then the 2025 cars will start to be built around April. So they saved the MT for the last year of production. Interesting.

Current info is suggesting Z4 will be in production until March 2026 so it will likely end production as a MY26. This would mean two model years of production if 6MT starts as a MY25. Still an amazing unicorn.

Just curious... does the appearance of the "configurator" that we can see correspond with when the dealers can place an order? ... or can they place orders before we can see it?

I've already stopped by the local dealership, but they basically told me to wait until the public configuration is available.... just trying to figure out if that's true

I have no deposit or "place in line" like some of the other potential customers are bragging about.

@graye , we spoke with our local dealer just this morning, and for whatever it’s worth, here’s the email followup reply, take from it what you will I reckon…. (Seems like typical adviser spiel imo, but we’re happy with 3rd on their list with no deposit until claiming our allocation spot & signing off on a build sheet. We’d prefer to stay local and aren’t in a rush either).

E; grammar, posted before caffeine kicked in, lol.

“Good morning. The Z4 that you saw sold the next day if you can imagine that. I have already gone ahead and placed you on the waitlist for the 2025 manual. Although the rumor is that it is coming to North America, it has not yet been confirmed by BMW. Just know that you are on the list and only 3rd in line, but I will let you know as soon as we begin to receive allocations. Always know you can reach out to me with any questions. Thanks and have a great weekend.”

3rd in line? For the manual?

Wow, if that's true then it kind of reinforces the notion that there is going to be a large take-up for the manual.

I guess the bonus for me is likely my dealer will only sell the one I buy as there was no mention to me about allocations. Maybe he is just keeping quiet on it. But when i did buy mine I believe it was the 2nd one they sold since 2019.

If anyone is looking for an automatic one and lives in the Chicago area, there's a dealer here with seven new ones on the lot at the moment! Seeing as it's 30 degrees and snowing, may be a good time to get a deal

I've never seen 7 total in all of the Chicagoland dealers combined at one time (and there's 11 dealers within 35 miles of me), so not sure what is going on with this one.

The amount of frustration in the Supra forums is unbelievable. They cannot get manual Supras or there are ADM on them.

The pent up demand is going to come from many angles.

While not in a market for the manual myself, I think this is so great for the community and the G29 Z4.

Getting on the wait-list is free. The real test is people actually picking up the car.

I was actually anticipating placing a deposit just to get placed. Granted, the last time I did a factory order was in ‘12 for a Charger SRT from an out of state dealer. And it was an immediate allocation I snagged if I recall. But I’d agree that expressing interest on a list versus actually signing off on a build can result in big variances though. Curious in seeing the actual numbers as time goes by for sure.

2 M40s and 6 S30s. One of each in Thundernight. At ONE dealership!

I can only find 18 in-stock/in-transit within 100 miles of me in Northern California (6 S30s). There are more M4C convertibles than Z4s.

Although there's a 2-year old S30 for sale at a Honda dealer with 5K miles for $47K that had an MSRP of $58K. Used market seems really weak.

Yeah, it’s nuts. When I was looking for mine there were 3 total for sale at all 11 Chicagoland dealers. Ironically, one of the dealers still has a the same new 2022 model for sale they had this time last year when I placed an order.

I wonder if this is real inventory as some dealers list cars that are incoming for actual customer orders on their websites just to get you into their showroom.

They all have pictures up. Normally when it’s an order they don’t post those.

Some stats on BMW MT's on current cars.

"BMW is one of the few automakers that still offers manual transmissions on its high-performance models. In 2023, they proved popular in the U.S. “Demand for manual transmissions in our high-performance M products remained very strong in 2023, accounting for about 20 percent of M3 and M4 sales (combined) and over half of M2 sales,” a BMW spokesperson told Motor1 in an email."

Evidently a dealer's decision whether to post ordered cars on their website. The Atlanta dealer I ordered from did post my ordered car as if it were actively for sale. I called them on it and they just stated that it was their policy in case the person backed out of the order.

Yeah, my car was posted on the dealer’s website when I ordered it too. But they never actually posted photos of it. Was just the generic stock pictures. I’ve been told that when they post actual photos it’s for sale and not spoken for.

Just the frozen green color seen in the photos that were published by the blogs and mention of another green shade in their articles.

Some dealers are more ethical than others and just advertise what is available.

They were doubling down in case you had a change in heart.

IMHO, it is a sales tactic that some dealers use just to lure buyers into the showroom and then the SA will tell people that car was just sold but shows them what is available. It is an old trick widely used in the industry. They do the same thing with CPO's on models that are really in demand.

Yes, they do. You have to start a dialog before you can sell. Buried in the fine print at the bottom of the web page:

All inventory listed is subject to prior sale.
