[QUOTE=Westside Guy;30792176]Some dealers are more ethical than others and just advertise what is available.

They were doubling down in case you had a change in heart.

IMHO, it is a sales tactic that some dealers use just to lure buyers into the showroom and then the SA will tell people that car was just sold but shows them what is available. It is an old trick widely used in the industry. They do the same thing with CPO's on models that are really in demand.[/QUOTE

Maybe. At this point, I only go into the showroom to test drive something and then handle everything online. While I am not at all a fan of Tesla, I do which their sales model would expand to other brands.

When I purchased my Z4, it was 'in transit' to a dealer several hundred miles away. I dealt with them mostly through text and e-mail. Putting a deposit down, I think, puts you as a serious buyer.

They took the car off their list on-line pretty soon after we came to a deal, while it was still in transit.

They picked me up from the airport (45 mins to the dealer) and had the car ready for me when I arrived. Still took 3 hours or so for the paperwork, etc.

Their business is making money, not selling you the car what you want (no matter what they say). Anything you can do to make their life easier, I believe makes your life easier.

(I am truly not a fan of car dealerships, and see it only as a necessary evil - If we could go to the Tesla sales model, I'd also be much happier!)

Didn’t warrant a new thread so piggybacking off this as it’s related….

Just messing around w/the current configurator for other models, but perhaps those more familiar with BMWs offerings will have additional insight - anything besides the below likely to be affected/not optionable for the MT version of the Z4?

-Remote Engine Start
-Active/Adaptive Cruise Control (I presume ‘traditional/old school’ cruise would still be avail )

I can’t see anything else glaring that would be ‘given up’ in selecting a MT.

When will the online configurator be up? Taking BMW forever. We are two months away from SOP?

Most likely a good part of that time was spent with their finance manager attempting to sell you additional coverages.

The Z4 comes standard with traditional cruise control.

ACC is the one option that I wish I had on my Z4. I wasn't willing to wait for a new build from Austria to arrive and the M40i I purchased was already available for immediate delivery at another dealer in the exact color combination I wanted. My dealer wired the money and trucked it from Allentown, PA to Ft. Lauderdale at his expense.

My wife has it on her 228i and it works great on local main streets where the speed limit is 45 mph and idiots suddenly brake for no reason.

I LOVE having ACC in our Acura, makes the long stretches on road trips so much more bearable. I don’t use it as often around town, but the better half does & enjoys it, (despite being more limited for our MY, not offering as much low speed/stop-and-go as newer iterations can now do).

Small price to pay to get a MT, IMO.

Unfortunate that BMW doesn’t pair the manual with adaptive cruise control (M2 configurator would not allow it, so I expect the Z4 to be the same). Acura, Honda, and VW can all do adaptive cruise with their manual transmissions…

Really enjoy ACC on long highway stretches. Don’t like it at all in around town.
Wife’s CX5 has it and no matter what the distance is to the front car, people WILL try and sneak in/cut off. That results in the computer going hard on the brakes to compensate instead of a gradual brake modulation.

Also don’t forget the Z4 can be optioned with automatic braking in case of vehicals or people in front of the car which can be a life saver.

Other then the drive home from the dealership (200+miles) I really did not miss having active CC which proved to be uneventful.

In any case if buying new it is a great option to have. If the Z4 ACC works similar to Mazdas then you can toggle it to a traditional CC at a push of a button…..which makes it the “best” choice cause you give up nothing to equip it other then the initial purchase $$.

I was willing to wait. ACC was one of the things I had to have and almost none of the used cars I saw had it. Our X5 has DAPP which is really nice. I can live without the lane keeping, but the ACC is so nice when you have to deal with even "normal" freeway traffic. It just deals with all the small speed changes in traffic as you go.

In the M2 configurator, those are the only options I saw that deselected the manual transmission.

That’s the model I used as well. Good to know, I’m sure it’ll be the same once the update occurs. Danke!

Well that's disappointing. Mazda has ACC on its manual car, only that version of ACC doesn't Stop-and-Go capability. It's probably their older version of ACC where it disengages at around 13 MPH.

I can take or leave ACC. It doesn’t bother me. But that might have something to do with the normal road conditions that I experience.

Have it in one car. Think I drove for about a year before I tried it out. Was surprised how good it is in adjusting to traffic slowing down.

If it’s any consolation, I never use cruise control with my manual transmission- it’s too fun to drive.

This image was floating around on Reddit. Allegedly what the dealers were shown.

Date on the bottom left is highly suspicious though.

Wonder what “interior elements only with cognac” means?

I read about the factory black badging from another source, and it looks like the gloss San Remo Metallic will be an option in addition to the frozen green. I hope they open up the wheel catalogue to include gold or bronze options, 827Ms on this car would be sick.
