So many negative comments about the Z4 not offering a manual in the enthusiast community.…..that wipes out much of the “gripes” about this generation. Very curious how the initial deposits go. Will it be a tsunami of interest or ripples in a pond.

My sense is after Jan 31 we'll see the MT car available to configure. BMW doesnt want to get MY25 cars online too early is my thought. I wouldnt expect to see the new colors and the MT option until after Feb 1

i think sales will be 50% higher

When you realize that the 6 cyl Boxster GTS is >$100K this car presents a great value vs other sports cars. I think the 6MT will sell very well.

Think for general sales not looking at the competition the car will do well for the rest of its life cycle.

Should be at least close to the normal number of 8ZF sales. Then there will be the new car 6MT or nothing buyer who was looking for something with a high level of performance that never looked at the Z4.

Last you are going to have current Z4 owners that will go to the 6MT putting more Z4's in the used car market.

On the Z4 vs 718-X I expect I am in the minority but I only think they compete against each other on the edges.

The 718-X is a pure sports car. It gives up a number of nice to have items for performance. To me the Z4-M40i is a high performance GT car that keeps all the goodies & comfort items available but still goes like a rocket over the road.

The fringe is the Z4 M40i will post better overall performance numbers than the entry level 718 but will not run with the top of the line Boxster.

My 718 is still in the family & the Z4 is quicker over any stretch of road or straight line.

On the 718 v Z4 discussion, two things amaZe me:

1) the prices of the 718. Prob driven by EOL/migration to BEV. Base boxsters are pushing $90k+.
2) the buyers of the 718. Are they in it for performance or for show? Base boxster is more a raw sports car experience than for eye popping perf stats. The GT4 owners that I’ve met are in a special league. But it’s more P car persona than stepping up from BMW.

Parked behind a brand new and totally pristine 718 cayman GT4 RS in the garage at work the other day (was not driving the Z4), along with a lot of other fancy new iron that’s normally never in the garage.

Heard later there was a big sales meeting in the building. Makes sense because if an engineer/dev owned any of those cars they wouldn’t drive them in the extreme cold or when there was gravel anywhere on the roads. 😂

GT4RS $250k+
GT4 $150k+

Frothy market still.

There is a beautiful certified 911T over at Hennessy Roswell that I’d take over either of those ($155k).

I am guessing that the uncovered console picture was provided to C&D by BMW and is not the same prototype as the prototype with the covered console and that the stitched together cover IS hiding something from view. The lighting and graininess of picture make it difficult to be sure but there appears to be CF showing at the base of the convertible switch. We’ll know for sure in a little over a week.
