Yes that is correct. In regards to addressing weight issues across the new car the entry models of the 5er will utilise the 3er's axle.
One of many contributing factors which will allow the 520d with the weight of around the equivalent of a 320d(F30). The larger engine models will use the axle from the 7er in regards to the Dynamic Drive option.

So there will be no more z4? That's what I meant by it. Surely bmw has a new one in the pipeline or a Z5, which will basically be the Z4 but more expensive because 5 > 4

I sure hope they dont give the next 3 series a big gaping grill like that. I hate the big grills of 5 and 7 series

Normally there are 6 model years for the M3
For the coupe M3, sure we got/get 6 years.

But for sedan, 4 years is right. E90M was MY2008, MY2009, MY2010, ending with MY2011.

There are several Z models in the pipeline. The Joint Venture Sports Car Manufacturing portion of the Cooperative Alliance Agreement was not finalized and agreed to until late last year. For these first two and any subsequent models that spawn off the modules of this platform, they cannot be direct competitors to each other. On the BMW side, a 4 series segment roadster will appear first (the Z4 replacement) in conjunction with a higher performance coupe Toyota Model (possibly the Supra). They'll be built on the same line at the Magna Contract Factory. The second model for BMW should be a Z5 Roadster and Z6 coupe. Come 2020, the GT86/BRZ program will be at its end, and the GT86 replacement will be built.

There are two independent statement from Executives at both companies that answer two questions no one has asked at the same time.

Is the platform scalable?

- Yes just as many are today.

- How flexible are the modules? There are specific hard points that cannot be adjusted so this will remain a longitudinal, Rear Wheel Drive basis for sports cars. AWD, and most importantly, hybrid AWD is easily accommodated. As long as the flywheel is facing the right way, numerous layouts are easily implemented for optimal placement.

I'm about to order a replacement for my 2014 X5 M50d (100000km) and I'm aiming for an October production. Will all of these updates be available in October?

Went over the thread but could not find an specific answer.

The G05 X5 coming in 2018 means it will be a 2019 model? Since the thread makes mention to a 5 year life on the current model and was produce in 2013 as a 2014 model.

Correct

Start of production for current X5 F15 was August 2013 as the 2014 and start of production for G05 is August 2018 as the 2019

Thank you! Just order an X5M. So it seems will work perfect as I assume the future M model will come a year after the standard versions.

I call BS on the "they want you to buy a X1 -2 -3 argument. If I wanted an SUV I would get a Macan, I would buy an M3 wagon in a heartbeat...

I don't understand why they offer the F31 in what is essentially mini SUV trim (auto, XDrive, and less robust engine) then say people are not interested in wagons. Most enthusiasts I have met think wagons are cool, they don't buy them because they enjoy driving, and usually gravitate towards RWD and manual.

For people known for their logic, I think ze Germans are making flawed assumptions about their customers, or at least missing an opportunity.

INDEED... all of this. They already lost a new sale by only offering the F-31 with a 4-banger and further hindered by xDrive. No thanks. I would have already moved up (particularly if they offered the F11), but instead I will be driving my RWD I6 E91 until the doors fall off...

This was the only interesting post I could find posted here during the last month. So, is there any new info about the i3s? Same as current i3, slightly lowered, better handling and some kind of power boost to reach 60mph more quickly?

I've had so many BMWs, but the i3 is by far the best one.

Sorry if I missed it but isn't the 3 series introducing a new body design in 2018?

BMW is indeed starting production of the new G20 3 Series in 2018, yes. The first post of this thread supports this fact with information about the initial models as well as the date for the end of F30 production.

Is there something you're seeing that does not add up to you?

Whoa, does that mean that the 3 series will be even bigger?

I hope they don't grow the wheelbase even more (maybe shorten an inch to improve handling?). I'm sure owners will fire back at me, but I think the F30 is too boaty already.

What is the "that" you refer to above? The fact that a new 3 Series is in the pipeline? Because that's essentially always the case.

And for what it is worth, I believe it has been mentioned by insiders that the new 3 and 5 Series will remain essentially the same size as the current models.
